Hi Folks,

Just received word that my 530i is due to arrive late next week! One thing that the dealer mentioned was a "Wheel & Tire Insurance". Basically, you pay $695 and BMW will cover any damage to tire or wheels for up to $4,000. <_<

I understand that America's Tire/Tire Rack offers tire (not wheel) insurance that costs around $53/wheel.

I do a lot of driving and do see a bunch of pot holes. I guess one trashed wheel and tire would just about cover the Wheel & Tire insurance, right?

I welcome your thoughts. No way I'm going to opt for the $800 PermaPlate option. I did a search on this topic and EVERYONE recommends passing on this upcharge.

That seems kinda high. I don't know if I'd opt for it either. Maybe if it included new tires when the time comes for new ones.

Both insurance deals are bad. The only reason to insure is if you can't stand the loss. I have never damaged a wheel or tire to the point it could not be fixed. Run flats may be a slightly different story--if I damaged one. But, I took my runflats off. The next owner will get them--after I put a few more miles on them taking trips, etc.

In the UK it costs ?200 for 3 years and covers up to 4 tyres per year but damage has to be inspected before Ins comp pays out so a puncture could take a long time to fix I cancelled and went back to normal tyres with a space saver wheel
