Has anyone given thought or taken the wheel / rim protection plan offered by BMW dealerships? For $600 for 3 years not sure if it's a good buy. My new ride will have the 172s so I imagine some damage is likely. Please share your thoughts.

Thanks.

Wouldn?t that depend on the plan and the company offering it, as well as its details and terms?

Of course. What I am speaking of is the plan offered by the BMW dealerships. They only offered one plan. No deduct, does not cover damage such as curb rash. My assumption is that it is BMW service but possibly I am mistaken. I am not aware of any other companies or plans as this is the first time it has been offered as an option with a new car.

Who is ,,they``? One particular dealership? Again, my original comment poses questions which are necessary to give a reponse to your request for an opinion?

My original comment stands. Please revisit and then reply.

My assumption was that all BMW dealerships would offer the same plan, thus my post. Thinking that other members had opinions on a common plan and could share some experience. As I said, I may be mistaken and will investigate further. Being that my car is coming from "one particular dealership", "They" in this case, could be accepted as this dealer.

Thanks for the insight and help I will post when I clarify with "They".

Are you sure this insurance specifies "wheel?" Look at that plan carefully. Most of the time the insurance is for tires-only and is offered by a third-party not the dealership.

There is a good non-dealer resource I just thought of: theautoclub.com offers wheel/tire insurance for $2.50 / mo. It appears to limit the cost of a tire to $250 and a wheel to $250 but this is significantly cheaper than anything any dealer offers.

I purchased the plan at my dealership when I got my car. I didnt spent a lot of time debating its value. My last car had OEM M-parallel rims, 2 of which wound up bent in the 18 months I owned it. I didnt want to have to deal with that issue again, so I bought the plan.

I will add that although the plan was sold to me by the dealer, I think its actually managed, etc., by a third party.

Took the tire & wheel protection package that was offered for $595 by the dealer. Considering the road conditions in and around NJ and the price of wheels and tires (sport package) I figured that might be worth it. Company is Safe-Guard, 5 year coverage, unlimited number of occurrances.

Make sure you read the fine print. $2.50 / mo from theautoclub.com sounds even better to me, unfortunately I didn't know about this.
