I've seen on the forum the sheet detailing what to prepare for when picking up a new car. http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=2117. This is extremely helpful.

My question relates to what "fees" to watch for when picking up new car from my dealer.

I negotiated $1500 over invoice. The purchase order MSRP totalled $69,105 (included gas guzzler fee of $1,300). My cash sales price is marked as $64,806.00 - but noted as "plus tags, taxes, processing".

I know there is a $295 processing fee but what else should I be aware of before I go in, take delivery and sign off? I expect to see taxes, tags and processing fees - but what does that include - and what other mysterious "fees" should I be wary of? (I'm in VA)

Just want to make sure I ask the right questions and have answers for my dealer if and when they try to stick me for negotiating $1500 over invoice.

Thanks for all your help.

FWIW, Even the processing fee is negotiable. It's pure profit for the dealer. I think MD dealers charge less ($100?). But I generally refuse to pay it or make them include it in the $ over invoice that we agree on.

The processing fee is negotiable? That is interesting to know, thanks.

What else?

I am no pro, but I always negotiate an out the door on the road price. Includes everything (tax, tag, title, processing fee, etc.) My dealer gave me $1000 over "invoice", but then he added $480 for advertising, training and processing fees. I felt comfortable because the out the door price was ($55860) $1339 over Edmunds.com invoice plus tax, tag, title.

That's what I am talking about; the processing fee is already on my purchase order ($295), I don't want to get tagged with an advertising fee - what the hell is that? I'm fine with tax, tags, title but am wary of those other fees and am hoping folks can tell me what to watch for.

If you get a bottom line price including everything, it doesn't matter what fee is associated with what. Just make sure you are comfortable with the bottom line.
