Holy smokes. Glad I paid cash. I was never, and will never be a fan of the lease. My SA tried to get me to lease my car and when I said 'no', he said too bad, that's where he makes all his money.

If you try to sell your car in 3 years you'll regret you did not lease it. BMWFS residuals (at least US) are much higher that real world trade-in prices.

$12xx dn at lease inception (1st month payment and some misc crap)
$745/mo (before taxes. Monthly tax is $22.xx)
36 mos, 15K yr

I am the opposite opinion from "gpt" above, but wish no offense.
I could never part with that much money (let alone finance) on a depreciating item.

i second to that. worst thing could happen is get into an accident and car gets totalled. there goes all the money down the drain. well not all of it, insurance will still pay the value of the car.

I've never consider leasing a vehicle. If one leases for $750/mo. for 36 months with $1200 at drive off. The total after the lease would be $28,200 with no car to drive unless you lease or buy again. I guess if a person buys a car, they could sell it and still have some resale value to put down on a new car. So what is the advantage of leasing a vehicle?

If you were to buy the car, after 3 years its value will have dropped by perhaps a similar amount to your lease payment total over the period (maybe more, as leasing generally works off artificially high residuals) plus you've got a whole chunk of capital that you've tied up in a depreciating asset. Whether you lease or buy you're paying for the depreciation and funding it in pretty much the same way. Look at it in reverse and the balance of the 60K you didn't have to drop on day one under the purchase model is still there if you want to use it against your next car. If you intend to keep the car for a longer period, leasing is maybe not the way to go but if you change cars reasonably frequently it can have advantages.

I'm super fortunate... I used sawapalease and my monthly payments on the 05 545 are $713. The former owner put his M3 convertible as a downpayment but in any event, it's still a sweet deal for me. It is a 36 month lease and I've got 20 months left in it.

I felt the same way after leasing an Audi S4. I then purchased an X5 back in 03 and was determined to keep it. It pretty much lost half it's value if not more in 3 years and with the new ML and X5 coming out and the various electrical issues it has, I wished I had leased it. I'm hanging onto it for now and just leased an 07 550i for 2 years to hold me off until the M3 arrives.

If you're gonna buy, buy a toyota or a honda. Luxury cars are like seasonal Louis Vuitton bags. Once they are out of season, they are worthless.

'07 550i that I'm waiting for (about 2 weeks away). Every option but HD Radio (couldn't get real time traffic updates with the HD).

36 months, 15,000 miles, 0 cap reduction, $2,739 initial payment for security, 1st month lease payment, document fees, etc., etc. Monthly payment is $1,069.

Lease works for me since it is a company car. By the way, the residual after 3 years for a 550i with 15,000 miles is 59%. That is pretty high and helps the lease payments. I priced an MB E550 that was not as well equipped and the lease payment was about $150-$200/month higher.
