Warranty Direct
#1
Hi
Me again.
I have a BMW E60 530D SE 2004 with a colossal 101K miles on the clock. Its been well serviced and truly drives like new. I'm the 2nd owner, having brought it 6 months ago with 98K miles on the clock.
I was wondering if any folks from the UK have taken out warranties with Warranty Direct? I have been offered a policy for ?400 with a bonus of an extra month (13 months in total) Do you think this is worth the money? Have to contribute to 50% of the cost of parts (due to >100k miles) with a ?50 excess.

I think the part where you said "I have to contribute 50% of the cost of parts" is when I said to myself: "No fking way."
Don't even bother if thats the case. That isn't a warranty, its a juice loan.

Yes the contribution threw me a bit too. Warranty Direct will cover all Labour charges from a BMW Franchise Dealer though.
Although my car still rides like new, i'm not oblivious to the fact that parts will soon require replacing. I was lucky that the previous owner had 7 BMW services carried out on it and spent a whopping ?8k carrying out various repairs/maintenance before i brought.
What nasty surprises are in store for me at this kind of mileage?
My biggest worry is the turbo charger and the issues with the swirl flaps much talked about in the forums.

So that's 400 British Leaf's for half a Warranty.
BMW wouldn't even look at you for any of their Warranty's - at any price.
BUT say you had a turbo failure, or dropped a swirl flap. Cost of parts?? Who knows, but say its ?1500. That's a cost to you of ?800. Then think of your local stealer's labour charges at ?100 per hour that you are getting Warranty Direct to pay for. That could easily exceed your parts costs.
Depends on how much of a gambler you are. Could you stand a 2 or 3 grand bill??
It is an unfortunate fact of E60 life that our cars are expensive to maintain, and they aren't as reliable as we would like them to be - or maybe because we read forums like these, we see the worst of our cars . .
Your choice I'm afraid, but I would be very tempted to splash the cash now and have a little peace of mind.

BMW have the same clause in all their insured warranties. At least with warranty direct you know where you stand. If BMW turned around and said the failure of the part was due to fair wear and tear, you'd be stuffed !
