I live in a hilly/snowy region, and AWD would be very nice to have considering my 530 will be my commuter (~38K miles/year). I hate the FWD in my '01 Volvo S80 and the fact that I can not turn off the traction control when I'm trying to claw my way up my snowy driveway drives me nuts. My wife's X5 was awesome in the snow.

I've heard from multiple sources that March '05 brings the introduction of the 530xi. Anyone heard more details? Pricing? Is March the first time one could order the car, or the time at which the first one shows up at the dealers? Could March possibly take any longer to arrive?

Will be interested to see if the new 3.0 engine (designated "R6"?) is introduced with/in the 530xi. Heard any details on the R6 timeline? I read: more power, lighter weight, and better fuel economy.

Any word on whether available options will be different with the 530xi? Or will AWD simply be an additional option to the current set?

Thanks in advance...

I read something like that about the 545 before it was introduced. The gas mileage part didn't happen, at least for me.

I just ordered a 530xi, US Spec for Euro deliverey. I was told it would come with the new engine. All options are the same as the 2005 530i at this point. Production of the 530xi will begin in Mar with delivery in Apr.

Will xDrive be available in 2005 on the 545?

My intel says 525xi and 530xi for mid-year 2005. No word on a 545xi next year, however the 545i will be upgraded to a 550i (probably for 2006), so the xi version may wait or not be available. BTW, the 525 and 530 will also come in a 525xiT and 530xiT for the wagon version. For my money, the 530xi with the R6 engine (13% more HP, 12% better mpg) makes sense. The xdrive on the 530 will probably erase the improved gas milage of the new engine. My guess is a 545xi would be able to pass almost everything but a gas station.

I agree Xdrive will decrease gas mileage but my 545 gets 1 mile per gallon better gas mileage than my '02 525 did.

Where did you order it from? - I would love to get my hands on the 530XI especially if it has the R6 engine - here in New York the xDrive would be quite valuable especially of we continue to have winters like we have been having.
