I ordered my 530xi in January and told the dealer not to give me the car until middle of May. Somehow, my car has arrived today and it was manufactured on March 6. It is going to be a 2006 model. I spoke to the sales manager before March and he verbally assured me that it is going to be a 2007 model. I am disappointed now and thinking whether or not I proceed with the deal. Are there significant differences between a 2006 and a 2007 model? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

$$$ You will have an "old" model, which will decrease your value upon resale.

Other than the fact that your car will officially be a 1 year old car in terms of resale value at the time of delivery, there would be a few minor differences. Since you didn't order the sports package, you would only be missing the Aux input and continuous tire pressure monitor. The former can easily be installed by the dealer for a few hundred dollars, while the latter might be more difficult (if its really important to you).
This is assuming that the 2007 update in Canada is the same as in the US.

Arthurk:

You should go check the car out to see if the Aux input comes standard with your car. The reason I say this is because you very well might have a 2007 since it was built in March. However, I am not sure if it was week 10 or 11 that they started making the 07's. I think March 6 is a week 10 production.

if it is an 06, and that's okay with you, negotiate a lower price b/c he gave you the wrong car.

If you're happy with the car and want it now, work the price. If you really want a '07 at the price you negotiated then refuse this one and have them order you another one. You're in control here. If you stated that you didn't want the car until the middle of May then you should be okay with waiting for an '07.

What is the price list that you worked off? If it was the '07 price list, then you must receive an '07. I would refuse delivery if I were you and reorder. Depending on where you live, you may still be able to get the new car by end-May if you hurry in your order.

They cant lie on the window sticker. See what it says... those get printed at the VDC and have your VIN on it. It'll show if its a 2006 or 2007 car.

Thanks for the replies.

When I negotiated for the price of the car, we were based upon the 2006 price list. And the offer listed that I am going for a 2006 model.

However, I also told them that I don't need to car until middle of May. Prior to March, I went over to the dealer and spoke to the sales manager about changing some options. During our conversation, he said the car is still in the queue and I can change any options I wanted. Plus my car will be a 2007 model since it won't be manufactured until middle of March.

Anyways...that is the background story. And yes, I got the car from town & country. Steven is the sales rep's name. Overall, I am just unhappy about the fact that I am getting a 2006 model and the car arrived at the dealer more than a month before the date I specifically requested.
