My Ride: 2005 545i with Sport Pkg, Nav, HUD, Cold Weather Pkg, Rear Shades
Thumbs up

This is a question to all of you who have traded your e60 in for a new/different model.

How far (more/less) from the Kelly Blue Book value were you offered and how far did you end up??

I am just curious to see how accurate the KBB numbers are in reality. Or is it just a starting point for negotiation? If just a starting point, then what is realistic?

Please mention your model when you reply.

Thanks for your help

I had my dealer make me an offer on my 04 530 as a trade......they were pretty close to the wholesale value published by KBB.....but as I got closer to delivery time, I found the market for used 530s.....early builds like mine, had flattened. My dealer had another 530 on their lot that was loaded up much more than mine with only about 3k more miles than my car.....and they just couldn't move it.....they ended up discounting the price about 5k to get it off the lot.......and I guess my point is it depends on your car, and what your local market is supporting.....I ended up selling my car privately and got about 4k more than the dealer was ready to offer.......

no dealer i know of is willing to accept kbb. they use http://www.galves.com/, which is based on real auction prices and updated weekly. prices are lower than kbb.

Maybe I am not stating my question correctly.

I am trying to figure out compared to these websites, how much more (or less) is one getting realistically when you trade your car in.

If galves is lower than kbb, then are people getting the galves number or the kbb number? If galves, then the kbb is number is higher than reality.

So what is it?? Come on ppl. Hasn't any compared their actual (real) trade-in price with the value in kbb or galves??

i haven't actually completed a trade-in (cause i got sold them privately), but all the dealers i spoke to were unwilling to accept the kbb price. they were only willing to deal if using the galves price.

if you manage to get a better trade-in value, the dealer is probably making it back by not discounting the new car as much.

I recently went to dealers and Carmax to trade/sell my 01 911. I got offers @6k below KBB trade-in price.... I end up sold it privately at KBB trade-in price.... Should I have use Galves? I don't know... if you can sell it privately, Do It..But what a hassle...

Best trade in offered for my 2004 545i was about 10% below KBB value.
My wofe's Subaru 1 year ago fetched ~ 20% below Kbb at 3 dealers after long fighting...
