We got it for my wife's new X5. Not 900 miles into ownership we caught a nail in the tread, to close to the sidewall for repair. Paid $475 as I recall for 3 years coverage and have already recouped $305 for the new run-flat on her X5. At this rate, I may make a profit given the road conditions here in New Orleans!! Point being, if you live in sunny California or elsewhere where the roads are generally in good condition, I don't buy it, but in tougher areas, you almost pay for it with one tire alone, much less a bent rim from a pothole...

 

You better believe it's worth it, Iv'e had this insurance on the past three BMW's used it for 2 new wheels and 3 tires. This coverage is very important.

 

I was contemplating this very issue. One thing to consider is lowering your auto insurance deductible to $100. Compare that to what you currently carry and see what the difference is. Lowering it from a $500 to a $100 would cost me somewhere around an additional $200/year, I forget the exact figure. That provides not only road hazard on wheels and tires, but windshield, and any other little thing that may go wrong. What I'm not clear on is how the insurance company will ding me if I actually make a claim. But this was a cheaper way to go, than purchasing road hazard and windshield insurance separately. http://www.theautoclub.com did sound like a pretty good deal. I did try contacting via email a few weeks back, but have not heard back from them. Been too busy to follow up.

 

The only problem is the cost. The coverage Rudy mentioned is a whopping $27.95 per year, about 7 times cheaper than what the OP mentioned.

 

What exactly is there to contact? They have a form, you input your name and credit card, and off you go.

To think, I paid $400 for insurance before I discovered theautoclub. Oh well, at least I got my money?s worth on that policy. One claim of $850 for a wheel and tire.

 

Not really applicable I know, but I would sure recommend the insurance, as I have done here in Uk. Paid ?250 for 3 years cover. But have had 3 runflats replaced at ?200+ each. One of the 1st insurances I have ever had which I feel good about!

 

The ability to purchase only wheel insurance wasn't available via the web when I looked, thus I contacted them via email. I see it is back or available now. It even gave me quote for my area @ $90/year.

So are you saying you turned in a claim successfully with the Auto Club? Did they take care of you pretty readily?
