Thinking of trading up to a 545....
What would be the minimum configuration among all the options that each of you would recommend? Other than the base model. Or if you want to, list the options you prefer and their priority.
i'll take active steering for sure. the next will be comfort seats or sport pkg. then prem sound pkg. i don't need nav, hud, cold weather pkg, and acc in this small island. as far as the transmission, it's really a personal thing

I have the 545i six speed which is minimally equipped. The six speed comes standard with the sports package, so along with that I just got the cold weather package and Logic 7. (and rear airbags, not sure if that's standard)
At the time, NAV wasn't available, but I would have gotten that for sure. The other things that I wish I had is sirius and comfort seats. If comfort seats is too much, at least get the lumbar support.

Depend on where You live, but if there is cold part of the year:
-xenon (more light)
-sport pack (better handling)
-heated seats (ahh...)
-CC (for the long run)
-stand by heating (it's so nice to go in when windows are open and inside is totally warm)
-nav (if You travel unknown places)
-Logic 7
These are in my list. At least next time.

I was thinking trading my 530i to a 545i too. But after considering for some time i think it is not worth it. I'm waiting for the new E90 m3 to come out in 2006. But if you wish to trade in to a 545 i would say go for it ! I'll take these options if i were you .. Premium Sound, Sports, SMG, Comfort Seats, Cruise control and Nav with HUD (If you need one). I doubt you need a cold weather package as you are staying in CA. Thats about it i think.

xenon is standard for 545 in the states
Except cupholders, and sometimes PDC.
Jimbo, all you need is the SP (manual/SMG, AS, 18" Wheels, Active Xenons, etc) and the fold down rear seats. Actually, you could drop the fold down rear seats if you own a pick up or SUV.
