A "just-for-fun" topic.

How hard do you guys push the car during test drives? Since the dealer is in the car with you, I've never really been able to bring myself to drive "to the extreme". Although once i did get the guy to make a yelping sound when i accelerated through a yellow light. hehe

I was comparing the 545 vs. a S4 and it was hard for me to tell the difference between acceleration for the two cars, since I was forced to drive on local roads x-P

My dealer usually lets me take the car without them. Even so, I can't allow myself to abuse a new car. It's just in my nature, I guess.

In my first test drive, the sales person drove first. He took off wide open throttle up to about 80-90 and then applied full brakes. Impressive, to say the least, but I knew right then that I would never be a candidate for a reduced price demo model.

Tell the salesperson you want to drive the car yourself. Other than the Cadillac dealer (CTS-V) nobody had a problem letting me drive alone. Then I would push the car hard, but don't abuse it. Drive it hard enough to get a good feeling for the engine, brakes and handling, but don't redline it.

Depends on whether or not the car I'm driving is actually the one I may buy

The dealer didn't come with on my test drive, but I think that the fuel in the tank wasn't premium and therefore I don't believe I got an accurate picture of the cars performance- which brings up a related question: do dealers keep premium in the tanks of their testers?

That'd be dumb if they didnt have premium in their tanks... the whole point is to try to impress you, not turn you off!

How much gas could you possibly use up in a test drive anyway??

only way to test drive w/o a sales advisor in here is test a two seater w/someone else. better go w/your wife/gf. then the sales advisor has to let you drive w/o him/her .

I never have a sales advisor with me.. I won't abuse the car but I don't want an irritating guy next to me telling how great the car is.. I will decide for that myself with my drive..
