....on the same note, I just picked up a 2004 645ci from a dealership in Toronto. I called BMW in New York as I was considering driving over to have Sirius installed (retrofit). They advised me that, after a VIN search, the car was not pre-wired for it and there is nothing they can do about it.

I have decided to install a Plug n Play Sirius radio. BMW has "warned" me that this may affect the iDrive system. I am quite sceptical, as it uses the FM Modulator (no direct hook-up to the stereo) and power from back side of the cigarette lighter. Does anyone know if in fact this will affect (i.e. crash!) my iDrive system? Thanks in advance!!

If you're using the FM modulator, I don't see any reason why you'd have any issues with iDrive.

Obviously, you won't be able to change stations, etc. with the iDrive controller, only volume and tone could be adjusted. The FM modulator never sounds as good as a system that uses an aux input or the factory Sirius but it might have to do since your options are limited...

Thanks for the quick reply! Do you think if I use an aux input it would cause iDrive issues (call me paranoid!)? The place that's installing it doesn't think so, but then again, they are an auto sound system specialist, not a BMW specialist. Thanks again.

The only aux input that I'd use is the one that BMW installs. Once they've installed the aux input, you can connect anything (iPod, XM, Sirius, etc.) without any issues...
