I'm still not above the shock I experienced this morning.

I made an appointment for the car's first service, as the I-drive indicates that an oil change is due in 1100 kms (I've driven 33000 km, car is from May 2007)
The dealer read the key and concluded that I need changed:

- oil
- microfilter
- fuel filter
- air filter

This would take 2 hours.

Cost estimate: EUR 515

I find this unrealistically high. Has anyone experienced similar prices? Or should I just go to another dealer for a second quote?

No maintenance? go back to the place. Buy the oils and microfilters. Pretty much Do It Yourself. Microfilters are easy to install.

You sure he is not putting in liquid gold! Seriously though shop around and you'll be amazed at the price difference you can acheive and most places will pick and drop the car for you too as part of the service, so it wont cost you anything more.

WOOOW.Thats pretty high.
BTW, dont you have free maintanance there? i think you should get 2yrs Free maintanace, not sure sure how it goes in Netherlands.

Air filter and microfilter are 10min DIY for both. go buy them and do them yourself.

As for oil, if your not a handy man and dont like to get down and dirty , then leave it to the pros.( in my country, even after free maintanance, im getting 4 yrs free labor, only pay for parts) Check again with another dealer for maintanance issue.

Good luck

lol, yep this is normal - my first oil/filter change cost me 310euro - I bought the air filter and microfilter on ebay myself for peanuts and changed it myself.

now, I also bought OEM BMW oil and oil filter on ebay and will only pay labor at my dealer which will = about 50euro.

And people wonder why people hate taking their car to the dealership.

It's one thing to make a buck or two. But to just rob you blind is another thing.

I just had a call from the dealership. The fuel filter and air filter are probably not necessary. this reduces the bill to EUR 284.

Wow!!! And I thought $99 oil and filter change from my dealer was a stretch. Maybe I'll kiss them, next time I need O/F change.
