Service Costs in the UK
Hi
Ive had the service message on the idrive come up and the computer says the oil needs changing. Ive took this to the dealer this morning whi checked the service items and said the following things needs doing.
Standard Scope ?30
Engine Oil ?166
Brake Fluid ?104
Fuel Filter ?88
Intake Silencer ?113
Totally up to ?501 (or $995). I was always expecting to pay more for a service that the last one i had on my ford focus but that just seems silly, esp when i only bought the car as an approved 3yr old used car from them 6 months ago. Are these typical prices?
Cheers,
Chris

Sorry I dont really understand your question.
I am getting a 48K oil change done on Monday which will cost just under ?200. Although the labour rates are high, I personally think that the service costs are good.

Other costs are probably about right. Remember to ring/visit another dealer and challenge the different prices - you'll often find they'll change!

You dont say what model of car you have, as service prices will vary. If your car is out of warranty why are you paying for expensive BMW service - either get a generic servicing place to look at it, or an independent specialist. They will still stamp your service book - any value different on resale of the car from not having bmw service likely wont be too different from what you will save on servicing! If you are worried that the idrive screen cant be reset by anyone other than bmw, thats wrong. you can do it from hidden menus - search this site for details.
regarding your costs, this is my take, from the point of my 520d
my dealer in northampton charghes ?93 an hour
Standard Scope ?30 - my guess is that this is time on a diagnostic tester. I am charged ?18 for this.
Engine Oil ?166 - Oil is ?70 ish for a 520d - which is expensive enough - after filter, labour and vat its ?140.
Brake Fluid ?104 - Who gets their fluid done every two years in the real world? others on here are paying 50-100 quid. Me, i will just reset the indicator.
Fuel Filter ?88 cant comment
Intake Silencer ?113 - as the service book doesnt list anywhere that the air filter is changed, i think this is a posh name for an engine air filter.Must be gold plated at that price
