Ran across this story about resale values as quoted by kelley blue book
URL=http://money.cnn.com/2004/08/23/pf/autos/kbb_resale_value/index.htm
It seems that the E60 was rated as the highest resale value for a luxury car at 68% at 2 years and 48 % at five years. Hope this holds up!

very nice find....me and my friend were having a heated discussion about this a week ago and he was saying that Lexus is good because it retains its resale value. well that proves him wrong since the best luxury car to retain its value after 2 - 5 yrs is GERMAN!!

I think it has to do with the "Deutsche Grundlichkeit". At least for the car it is.. Maybe not for the windowsbased software

Lexus is good, very good.
Also regarding the 5 series, all models are pretty good, EXCEPT the 545 which is significantly worse. 48% compared with 62% - roughly.

IN Europe I think diesel cars will sell the best. At least that's what happend to the early modell of 5 series. Here most people are looking for economic cars.
So a 530d will sell better than a 530i. When it comes to 545i.. it's another problem. THose who buy that car buy it for the power and speed... They don't realy care about fuel consumption.
