I wanted to share my latest dealer service experience. Hopefully this information helps someone in their situation.

I went in for service at Crevier BMW on Tuesday May 6th for the following issues. The work done by the dealer are in bold:
  1. Steering wheel noise/whine at low speeds
Steering rack gear noise. Defective steering rack. replaced the steering gear and performed 4-wheel chassis alignment.
    Parts used:
    32-10-6-770-305 RMFD Steering Gear
    32-41-1-093-730 Hollow Bolt
    32-41-1-093-596 Seal Ring
    32-41-1-093-596 Seal Ring 14x20

  2. Passenger restraint fault
Faulty 0C3 Seat occupancy mat for passenger side. read out fault memory. found fault 95bb stored in sbsr module. as per SIB 72 02 06. Removed passenger seat leather and replaced foam/sensor mat. Enabled new mat and cleared fault memory.
    Parts used:
no p/n given for the Sensor Mat
    52-10-9-118-453 Seat Upholstery

  3. Microfilter replacement due
    Replaced Microfilters
    Parts used:
    64-31-6-935-822 Filter

  4. Rough idle. I've asked them to look into this before and they always claim they can't reproduce it. They did have a new excuse for it, the 91 octane line is a good one, stupid me I've been using diesel fuel ...DUH.
Could not duplicate. Make sure 91 octane is being used. This has a big effect on engine performance.

  5. Center arm rest rattle/noise. Again this is the 4th time I've asked them to look into this. same result. The rattle is very noticeable.
No problem found. No noises heard from arm rest.
It took them a total of 4 days to do the repair work, they stated they used over 3K in parts (not including labor) for the warranty work. I really need to look into the extended warranty in the future. I'm glad they took care of the critical issues but its annoying they can't resolve the rattles in the center arm rest.

I was satisfied with the service until they returned my car with 2 scratched wheels (2 inch curb rashes) I am giving them a chance to repair the rashes but if I'm not satisfied with the repair job I will insist on new wheels.

I hate it when dealers blow you off for things like noises and rattles. I know it takes a little more troubleshooting to find them sometimes, but I am SO sensitive to noises that shouldn't be there...it can drive me nuts!! I'm also bothered when I hear about things like wheel rash....makes me think the service guys, or valets are not being particulary careful with the cars. I have never had anything but great service from my dealership, and they seem to go the extra mile to find the problems I bring in. I've also noticed that they are extremely careful with the cars. Maybe the fact that they are a smaller dealership as opposed to Crevier makes it easier for them to keep tabs on how the employees treat customers/vehicles? I know that several members here have had great buying experiences from Crevier....does that stop when you get to service?

Thanks for the heads up. Do you know if it makes any difference where you buy the extended warranty or if they will deal on the cost of it?

It does make a difference!! The dealers, or the finance guys, make money off the warranties. I talked to two local dealers about the extended warranty/service plans, and the dealership that I DIDN'T buy from offered me a better deal!! Can't hurt to shop around. Also, if I understand correctly, you can buy an extended warranty anytime within your manufacturer's warranty period. Good luck!

I just picked up my E60 from the dealer, this time it was dropped off for wheel repair. They did a great job fixing the wheels, I can not tell the difference so far

Did they tell you how much it cost to fix the wheel?

I glanced at their invoice it stated it was $76.00 per wheel. They repaired 2 wheels.

You were lucky to only get the curb rash.... after keeping my car for 4 days, they destroyed my rear bumper as part of their "complementary car wash" They gave me a loaner and sent it off to the body shop for repairs. They gave me the car back while it was dark and the next day in sunlight, there was overspray in many places on my brand new car (hood, front fenders, etc.). I found that their service department is completely incompetent. I would recommend another dealer...any other dealer besides Crevier!
I'm sure you are as frustrated with them as I was at that time.
