The real question was....Is my dealer jerking me around charging me look at rattles if the car is still within the warranty period, but more than 12,000 miles?

What are others experiences?

Mine is an '05 and they didn't think twice about looking into the problem under warranty, they even replaced some chrome trim that was looking faded. (not for shadowline unfortunately!) I was worried I was gonna get jerked around with silly issues like this but I've got nothing but praise for my dealership (Prestige BMW) and SA Jim.

So basically he's charging you for the hand job

But seriously...should not be charged IMO...as stated earlier...try calling another dealership...GL

Well it depends... Not sure how CA warranty is... but normally, from what I've heard and experienced, dealers in the US dont charge to look for rattles when its under warranty... they dont get paid for it if they dont find the problem... so thats probably why we usually get the normal "cannot duplicate" answer.

There are three rattles.

3. Back seat creak/rattle when going over bump (no shades or fold down seats). I have tried to stuff rags between the parcel shelf and the back seat, but the rattle is still there.

2006 530i, sport package
check the front passenger side headrest....my car was rattling like crazy and i swore it was the doorseals, or the parcel shelf, or the door pins. during a test drive with the head mechanic at the dealer it didnt rattle one bit, so that got me thinking its something with the seat since it doesnt make any noise when someone is sitting in it. after checking it myself i found that the headrest was noticeably loose. lowering the head cushion relieved 90% of the problem but i'll have the dealer look at it next time i bring it in.

and here in USA the dealer doesnt charge for rattles, im not sure about ca though.
