Dear members
A friend of mine is in the market for his first BMW and he is between two E60 M Sports saloon cars on offer from main BMW dealers Both cars are in Silver & black leather, both are with Media pack.
Car 1
A Sep 2005 (55 plate) 525i M Sport with the new Magnezium alloy 218 bhp engine
14K miles
Visibility pack (Xenon)
Extended Voice control
Sun protection glass
Asking ?30000
1 previous owner
Car 2
A June 2005 (05 plate) 530i M Sport the older 231bhp engine
10K miles
Folding mirrors
HiFi speakers
Asking ?28000
2 previous owners
The 1st car is newer and has the Visibility pack & extended voice control and one previous owner, the second car is ?2K cheaper [b]but has less options and 2 previous owners.

i would buy a diesel 530 if they are not too expensive for his budget. Also, i think both cars that you have featured above have too few options. i would get a car with a few more options with a bit more kilometers on the clock if it afects the price. It makes the car much more enjoyable.
I would get the 1st 1 because itis a new engine and save on fuel too.
to can alway mod it and it will be just as fast a the 530i.
it will be easy to sell in a few years time with the new engine.
or even better get the 530d I love this engine.

Well he is not a big diesel fan, it is less refined than a petrol engine and fuel consumption is not an issue since he only drives 12K a year and will buy an Auto box in any case, which reduces the consumption gap further.
Also, the difference in options is not that great as both cars have the leather & media pack which are the main two options he is interested in.
The main difference in the engine, that's why he asked me to post this thread.
Get the 525i it's got better spec and less owners.
Don't get diesel unless you really need to save on fuel because having driven both petrol and diesel E60s, the petrol is so much smoother and more refined (especially the new engines) the diesels are good but you definately know it is a diesel when you are accelerating.
But to me the prices look expensive. I bought an ex-demo 55 plate 525i M Sport with 6000 miles, carbon black & black leather, Media pack, Visability pack, heated seats, sun protection glass, M rear spoiler, Tracker for ?29k from BMW and I still negotiated above book value for my part exchange.
But negotiate hard and you should be able to get a good price for which ever car you go for
