Quick question from Europe..

How come it's cheaper to do a Euro Delivery?

Tax savings?

Just curious.

BMW saves the cost of shipping the car from the factory to the dealership. They do pay for the boat ride, but you bring the car to the shipping agent, pay the administrative fee, pay for the optional but recommended shipping insurance, and pick the car up at one of the designated ports. If that port is several hundred miles from where you live then you pay the costs associated with getting to the port and bringing the car home.

I'm pretty sure there's no tax savings since the car has never been registered (thus declaring it new). Someone who has actually done ED could chime in.

Don't forget that you have to pay for the round-trip airfare. While driving in Europe - you are also paying for temporary plates and German insurance (which is way more expensive than U.S. insurance), and gas will cost you about $5 - $6 a gallon. Purchase a sport-packaged car in the winter season and you will also have to pay for winter tires, which can be rented.

So its not really cheaper - it just gives you the opportunity to drive your car in Europe (which makes the ED option worth it IMO).
