I concur... fellas if you do call NYK, please try to limit your calls, as you can wear out their kindness pretty quickly.

Also, keep in mind that just because you called, doesn't mean your car will get to port faster

cheers,

I'm not going to call. My dealer should have updated information for me at least once a week. Is that too much to ask for? I don't think so.

Yes, too lazy. If he does a Vehicle Status Inquiry he will be able to see when your car was onloaded, what vessel it's on, what the bill of lading number is, what the voyage number is, and what the expected arrival in port date is.

My dealer says he has no information on shipping vessels. Is he just too lazy to look it up?

If I have the call sign does anyone know how to track this ship?

My car came on the Grus. Its a NYK shipping vessel. No tracking available. It will show up at Port Hueneme 4 weeks after it leaves the port in Europe.

Sorry about the fact yours won't be tracked, it helps pass the wait. Any reason it took so long to get on a ship?

They didn't give me a reason why it took so long to get it on the ship. But, as long as it arrives at the end of this month, I'm okay with that. Just, not right that you can't track west coast ships but can the east coast ships.

It usually takes a few days for the ship to show up on the sailwx site. The ship usually doesn't call for weather info until it clears the English channel by a few hundred miles. It'll show up, just keep checking. It will be a fun but agonizingly long journey to the U.S. Enjoy!

Quite a few ships don't participate in the VOS program so they can't be tracked on SailWX.info or oceanweather.com. This is true for both WW and NYK vessels. I gather that it's up to the ship's master whether they report location and weather observations into the VOS system.

If it's any consolation all the WW website tells you is that your car was loaded and it left Southhampton. Luckily mine is on a ship that takes part in the VOS program. Most don't report until they clear the channel, there is hope yet.
