My Ride: 2006 BMW 530xi - Titanium Silver Metallic / Gray Dakota Leather / Dark Poplar Wood Trim / Cold Weather Package / Premium Package / Premium Sound Package / Lumbar Support / Xenon Adaptive Light Control / 6 speed auto - Steptronic Trans. /Sirius Satellite Radio / Voice Activation / Navigation / Moonroof
Took my rig in to the dealer for the BMW mandated "valve bleed" to hopefully resolve the valve tap she's experienced when ambient temperatures have been below 20 degrees F, and was given a 528i (with AWD) with a little over 3K on the odometer as my loaner for the day.
While I like the changes to the i-Drive functionality (compared to my '06), the "favorite" buttons, the addition of a trunk button on the console and the relocation of the window and mirror buttons, I was not overly impressed with the way she drove. The pick-up, responsiveness and overall drive-ability were somewhat lacking compared to my ('06) IMHO.
I reserve judgment on the unlinked fully electronic gear shifter until I've had an opportunity to drive one for more than a day.
Bottom line: Am I candidate for the loony bin for thinking this way?

I drove a 528xi non sport as a loaner and really didn't care for it. My 04 530i drives much better. I think its because of the suspension / spring and wheel setup I put on the car. It makes a huge difference in how the car responds. Plus the 528 is just slower than pissing against the wind.

Weird. The 528 has more hp than an ?04 530? Xi factor?
Yea, and it was slower. Go figure? As someone else mentioned, I just couldn't stand the bob and weave and bounce to the non sport suspension.

Could have everything to do with the horsepower, or lack thereof.
The 2006 US 530's are listed as having 255 horsepower, whereas the 09 528 is listed as having 230 hp.
I reckon that the loss of 25 hp is what was most noticeable.
