I called my friend a the BMW dealership for him to switch me back to an M3 but now i'm dying for a convertible.?
? ? I don't have a 545 so i can not attest for the power but the M3 powers is awesonme; add some pullies, chiip and intake and forget about it?
? and in connvertible , the feel should be the best (used to have an M roadster in 98) and fun... tought descision after reading these comments.. I want a conv but like the ride and room? of my E60..tought descision... the M3 body style is going to be out for another 3 years a t least so. that is not a concern too much..

My Ride: 2005 545i SMG. Titanium Grey with Grey interior and Anthracite wood.
Photo of M3 and 545i SMG
As you can see from the photo, my family has both the M3 and 545I smg. I can tell you. Both cars are amazing. The difference for me is the daily driver aspect. Both are blazing fast, but I couldn't live with the track suspension and engine in the M3.
I would go for the 545i SMG aging if I had to.

Wolverine, I really doubt that.I think is the M3 driver... The M3 with a few mods will outrun a 545 if if driven correctly.. but anyway..the E60 has the torque so if the M3 driver did not get the rpms correctly is going to be a bit hard to catch an e60 545 ..
bmwin14rsm, That is exactly what i used to have but I don't want a coupe... the vert looks so great with the top down and with 19s. I guess I'm craving the vert feeling again...I think I can still put both of my car seats back there
I hope,.. just realized that..need to check on that..ummm

My previous car was an E46 M3 with SMG - my ride now a steptronic 545i.
I have a real jeckyll and hyde feeling about switching. What I miss:-
- dynamics
- stability at speed during cornering
- flick flack change of direction ability
- the fantastic noise
- the smg on the downchange
- flat cornering
What i don't miss
- the hard hard ride
- the kangeroo effect 1 to 2nd gear change ( unless your concentrating)
- the rattles
- the old fashioned looks
The 545i has the pace on the straights, is smooth, sophisticated and luxurious plus the looks - glorious techno-fest angles and curve combinations.
On the whole I'd keep the 545i but, unlike any previous car I've owned, I miss the M3 for when i want a little show, a little rough, a little bit of what you fancy.
because of this i'm contemplating swapping next year for a 996TT or maybe M5 - the dilemma goes on!
good luck with your decision - whichever you get will be a cut above most anyway.
