why do you think it is that in the uk we get the m sport pack as also in SA you get it but in the US you dont . What are they playing at' do they no something that we dont ' because I am sure that a lot of E60 ownersin the US would like the option of the M sports pack ;? Does any one agree.

Same happend with the E39 M Pack, the USA only got it right at the end of the cars life.

Maybe BMW USA is trying to keep the M5 look exclusive to the M5 ???

just guessing here, but i guess thats it. I (for some reason) believe that more people would get the m5 look for their e60s just because (IT LOOKS SOO GOOD), thereby reducing the value of the m5. on this side of the pond people just buy the 5 because its a great car, not caring so much for looks (happy with 16"s, no sport package, no leather interior :'( , etc, etc, etc). So those of us with good (expensive?) taste that want our cars to look like m5s, well... bmw keeps us happy.

Whilst i believe the US is the primary market for the m5 -lots and lots of people that can and are willing to shell out for an exclusive ?ber speedy super sports sedan. They're going to make the most money in that market, and they want to keep those customers happy knowing their part of an exclusive cirle, and that a bunch of loosers (read: all of us) wont go buying the "sport pack" to make their car look as fast as theirs. So no sport pack, and bmw keeps the state-side customers happy.

either that, or the sport packs got lost in the mail when we shipped them over from germany.

on a side note: seeing an old m5 on the streets in stockholm is rare. i know its less rare in larger cities in europe (london, paris, etc), but i dont think they sell enough to have a large enough m5 "community" to piss off by selling sports kits to people with "lesser" cars.

I think they're just trying to stay popular

its just pure stupidity by the marketing division at BMW NA, they can sell lots of M-Sports and at a premium for the package so theres no business reason not to offer it... other than to continually alienate their loyal base of course...

Absolutely agree. Really aggravates me that they don't offer the M-sport package in the US. I am hopefull that they will offer it with the 2006 model year, but with the 06 introduction of the M5, I doubt it.

OK here is my theory. BMWNA is BMW AG's biggest customer. BMWNA generates a huge volume of business and in return gets the cheapest BMWs on the planet. They pass these savings on to the dealer network an some of it trickles down to us. Really, we do get our cars cheaper than anywhere else.

Now in order to manage this volume from a production stand point, they introduce the package concept. A handful of colors, only three trims and four basic interior colors. Hence no BMW individual, no choosing your options and no M sport package unless they are at premium that BMWNA doesn't feel is worthwhile marketing. Anyone with the dosh can surely buy it in Europe and ship it over. Then have your local bodyshop install it.
