My 2004 bmw 530i I just bought is out of warranty but after reading through the forums I thought that the dealership still should not charge me for enabling the mp3 CD playback (mp3 retrofit). I told the service rep over the phone that I had a bulletin for this but he told me that I would still be charged and that he never heard of this (not sure he me meant he never heard of the mp3 retrofit or not being charged for it).

Anyone ever have the same problem? Can someone verify that I should not be charged for the mp3 retrofit even though my car is out of warranty. Thanks.

I think it might be because you car is out of warranty. But try a different dealer and see if they tell you differently.

The other option is to get a Dension 500, if you car has CDC or CDC prep.

Even with the bulletin, it is free ONLY if you are still under original warranty, says right there on the bulletin.

So Denison 500 doesn't require mp3 capability?

Frank,

AFAIK Mike (nigxdoof) in-dash CD player don't play MP3 due to early built but he did got iPod interface enabled and his Dension GW500 is good.
