So I leave my 2006 530i at the dealership for the infamous brake squeal noise and get a 2008 or 2009 (only 6k miles) 528i loaner. This is my real first service visit.

Some observations on the loaner:

The 528i non-sport is not really much smoother than my 530i sport pkg with non-RFT PS2 tires. I was expecting a huge difference but I'm not even sure there is any.

The Sports package on my 530i is definitely worth it, and you sure do feel the difference in the corners. I took my first high speed turn coming out of the dealership and there was significant under steer, I was actually caught off guard.

The 528i had brake dive and the car's suspension was pushed down on acceleration. I basically don't feel this in my 530i (its very flat and stable in both situations).

The 528i has a nice steering wheel, the rim was thicker and nicer to touch than the harder, thinner feel of my steering wheel.

The 528i's I-Drive controller is nice to touch and use than my 530i.

The 528i engine power isn't bad, but again you can feel the difference. Its definitely faster than the 525i.

The 528i engine/transmission seemed smoother or more eager (maybe I need the transmission reset "trick" on my car)

Okay, now about the servicing. I also complained that the car was pulling to the right so they said they would do the suspension tuning and alignment. They said they would put it on their alignment machine and also make sure the suspension as in factory spec. Its costing $200 (I have warranty) so I think I got ripped off.

I also asked about the IPod adapter, and their price was $600, I said no thank you. Can I get a better price at another dealership?

I'm in Southern California, in Orange County. I guess I should update my info.

I had an alignment done on my last 328i (7/08) at BMW and they charged me $165 so I think it sounds about right!
