I got a 525i.
My dealer doesn't rent cars when they run out of loaners. The deal is that you get a loaner "if one is available," and they pre-book the loaner slots. So usually the soonest appointment available for service does not have a loaner available for the same day.

My Ride: 04 545i Auto Sport
Silver Gray Metallic - Black Leather - Poplar
Premium Sound - Shades - Sat Prep
3M Clear Bra
1. Z4 (2 weeks )
2. 325i (brand new 13 miles on it) (2 weeks)
3. 325i (2 days)
have to make an appointment specifically for a rental - service appt and service appt w/ rental are 2 different things.
The second service appt was a long story, and alot of head ache. I brought the car in for a simple one day service and they ended up having to repalce the steering rack so I was stuck @ work with no car and no way to get home.
They delivered a brand new 3 series as a loaner - Crevier BMW re-earned my business after losing it the time before.

So far, I was given a 325i. I hated that car, but at least it was a BMW. It reminded me how nice my 545 is by comparison.
I will NEVER allow a dealer to give me anything other than the brand of car I drive. One time I showed up at a Lexus dealer, and they tried to give me a rental car.... which was not even on site. They were going to shuttle bus me over to Enterprise. I told them to go get my car out of the shop and I'm going home.... and don't EVER, EVER try pulling a stunt like that again. I expect when I make a service appointment, that I get a loaner... and it better be ready and waiting for me when I get there.

Depending on what's being done, I can have to work pretty hard to get a loaner. Oil service = no loaner, recall = loaner, everything else is negotiable.
They try to give me a X3, 3, or Z3, and if nothing's in, they rent a car for me onsite - their cost.
Not too bad, overall, I just hate having to "beg" for a loaner for a $60K car. My first dealer told me years ago that only 7 series owners got loaners. I just about passed out, as I'd just bought a fully-loaded 540 from them. I don't use that center anymore.
