Hi, i was wondering what car you get for a loaner while your E60 is being fixed. I took mine in twice, and i get a 325xi the first time and then a 325i the 2nd time. But had very low gas.

So when i returned it, i filled it with like 3-4 bucks of regular 87 octane gas

I've had two 318i Coupes one with black cloth and one with beige cloth/leather combination.

Now I have a 316i sedan with grey leather or leatherette.. It looks a bit cheap so I think leatherette (never new this was possible in the netherlands btw).

2003 325, 2003 525 wagon, 2004 x3

I have been using the same dealer since 2001. They have a fleet of well used and base model Toyota Camrys. The last one I got had the "Maintenance Required Now" light lit.

Last year I requested a 3 series since my wife was considering one. I still got the Camry and my wife bought a Passat.

2003 325 twice & a 2003 X5

Iceman 09-09-2004 01:52 PM

E60's (520i, 530i) and once a 3series convertible.

Had the 530i for almost 6 weeks pre-delivery, a 645ci for two days test driving, and the 520i as well as the 3series convertible as loaners while getting stuff done on mine.

alohalc 09-09-2004 01:54 PM

i think i'm the "luckiest" one so far. i have a e60 with xenon lights, prem pkg, and cold weather pkg. also with the color i like the most, titanium grey but w/grey leather :(. but if you here my story, you won't feel i'm that lucky !

Camry?? Is it like a Toyota/BMW dealership?

The dealerships are separate but with common ownership.

Well, I have to vent on this one... my last appointment for my "Restraint Systems Fault" problem... I called ahead, scheduled an appointment... and told them I would need a loaner. When I arrived for my appointment, they said... "um... we dont' have any loaners... I'm going to call Enterprise" I almost hit the roof!!! Now granted I don't have a 545 all tricked out, but damn!!! After blowing off some steam... I was somewhat glad to see the 2005 Chevy Tahoe they had for me to drive. However, after 4 days of driving it, I thought I was going to be crazy!!! If the 15 MPG I was getting wasn't bad enough, feeling EVERY bump in the road surely was.

Oh well, maybe better luck next time... :'(

kigerka 09-09-2004 03:01 PM

When I took delivery the dealership waited to the last moment to install my spoiler. When they saw how long it would take the adhesive to cure they offered me a 330i to drive for the day. I wanted my car so I scheduled a date while I was in Sweden and let them do some changes on the car.

gdavis 09-09-2004 03:41 PM

The dealership I go to will not give me a loaner since I bought my car from a different company. They clearly tell people that the loaners are only for people who buy their cars from them.

They also aren't particularly nice to people who get them elsewhere, even to the point of making a big deal about the issue from time to time. Not too cool. I think I may change dealers because of this.

saurabh 09-09-2004 03:53 PM

i usually get a 2004 ferrari 360 modena as a loaner  :wow: :wow:

amigo525 09-09-2004 04:08 PM

Iceman,

how is the ride on the 6 you got as a loaner?

amigo525 09-09-2004 04:10 PM

I got a loaner only once..a toyota camry with 204 miles. Almost brand new though but a toyota..

I felt as if i was riding a bike..no offense (japanese)

The engine is the same, but it feels waaay more sporty, suspension seems to be a little harder (but could be the sport seats) and it has a GREAT SOUND !
Really a beautiful car!!
I would have taken it instead of the 545, but I need the comfort seats because of my severe back problems.
The sound is terrific!!!

I have the same problem. There are 2 dealers close to me.. one about 12 miles away and the other 25 miles away... i was getting a better deal at the dealership 25 miles away, but now when i want to take my bmw in for service, i can't get a loaner if i go to the closer one because i didn't buy the car from them. Is there any way to have them loan me a car?

Wow, i can't believe they give you a camry for ur E60.... wow and some of you are lucky to get E60's or 6 series...

Hasn't gone in much. 3 series loaner (even for non warranty work).

viper786, we've discussed this before. loaner is not mandatory. even if you get your car and do all the services in the same dealer, they don't have to get you one if they don't want to. it's really up to the dealers. most will offer something for you to drive, not necessary another bimmer, but i know some don't. pure luck . it's better for you to ask before you make your purchase. if they promised to get you a loaner before you sign the papers and they don't give you one after, then you can kick their a$$e$!

530E60NL 09-09-2004 11:33 PM

In Holland they have to offer you a loaner. Even the dutch website states that you get one with warranty isues. When you bring the car in for service or if it is damaged you have to pay for it yourself.

And how exactly do you suggest we "kick their a$$e$"?? I was promised SEVERAL times by multiple people I would get a loaner before I bought. They still refuse to give me one, even though I was in service for 28 days straight the last time I was in. No loaner, no lease payment paid. Nothing but rotten service, attitude, and unreturned phone calls.

Personally, I would have gone to the dealer after 2 weeks, and raised so much hell, they would have wished I just kicked them in the derrier. Bad service from anyone should not be tollerated, remember you are the customer, and raise holy hell until you find someone in the company that cares about you. Daily letters or phone calls to the president of the company, service manager usually gets people on the ball, or at least in my experience.

Sorry you had so much trouble.... lucky for my dealer, they haven't given me the same service you have gotten.

my530i 09-10-2004 06:36 AM

The first time for warranty service, my dealer gave me a Dodge Interpid. The second time, they gave me a 325iA. And the third time, the gave me a 530i just identical to my car with xenon. There was one guy behind me asked for the 3.0i Z4, and he was granted. I was told by the service advisor that my dealer has 70+ loaner BMW on the fleet ranging from 7 series down to 3 series. I am impressed.

northernmonkey 09-10-2004 07:10 AM

I've had over the last few yrs, some from when my E46 was in....

320 CD Sport - nice car
320 Ci Convertible - also nice, bit posy for me though
318 SE saloon - good
530d - an E60 nuff said :)

I once asked for a 645Ci but the service guy just looked at my like I was crazy :wow: I think from now on we will see a lot of 1-series being given out as loaners.

pbarch1 09-10-2004 07:20 AM

This is a sore subject with me. "IF" I make my appointment far enough out I'm graced with a 325, or something. But how often do we go in for routine mainance. Otherwise I'm SOL ... And that is what really pisses me off, I mean I have a 545 less then a year old, It has been in the shop, 6 times !! , and all they can offer up is a 325.... Bahhhhhhh

Iceman 09-10-2004 07:43 AM

In Germany they give you a loaner when it's a warranty thing. Fo regular service the most dealers offer loaners too...
If you lease your car you get to coupons for loaners thru BMW FS (financial services) per year.
And loaners are allways bimmers, haven't seen anything other than that in Germany.

Olivin530i 09-10-2004 09:11 AM

The last time my ride was in for 3 full days, they gave me a 320i that has some 121,000 kms and a faulty catalytic converter  .

The exhaust stinks and petrol consumption is exceedingly high! (far worst that a 530i) .

The PDC (rear only) doesn't even work :wow: and the cabin smells :wow: . And there is a big ugly dent on the front passenger door :wow: (girls which I pick asked me if it is safe to ride with me :D )

The next time they want my car in, I am going to request for one with active steering  - having to re-learn turning the steering to make a u-turn all over again makes me miss my ride  !

Flowerfred 09-10-2004 09:58 AM

They mostly give me a Roll Royce, but that's only because the Lambourghini is always out..

;)

But seriously.
They have some 5's and 3's and a few mini's as loaners.
Last week I had to cancel an appoinment, and the next available slot for a loaner was 4 weeks away! Very annoying.

alohalc 09-10-2004 10:13 AM

suebmw, that sucks big time ! you should go back to those people who promised you a loaner. if all attempts failed, go to the sales manager since one of the people who promised you gotta be your sales rep. if failed, go to the gm/president. i'm sure they'll do something. don't bother with the part/service managers. they don't really get along w/all the sales people. so if you complain to the service manager and saying where the hell is the loaner, they wouldn't give you one since he/she is not the one who promised you this. and they sure don't want to clean up sales people's mess. hope everything will work out great. good luck . oh, btw, i wanted to ask long time already. are you the first and only lady that registered in this forum o:)? if so, welcome to the men's world  :D :P!

ch7656 09-10-2004 10:17 AM

My dealer gives me nothing...they simply point toward the rental car agency. The stupid thing is I just "assumed" I would get a loaner from BMW...hell I get loaners from GMC...I get loaners from Audi...but no such luck with the local BMW dealers here in SoCal. The exception is Crevier...but they'll only give you a loaner if you bought your car from them.

Anybody in SoCal know of a dealer that gives loaners for general service?? Maybe I'm looking in all the wrong places

Evenflow545 09-10-2004 10:31 AM

They gave me an X3 once, with under 1,000 miles. By the time I returned it, the next day, after extensive road testing, under multiple conditions, the engine, brakes and transmission were all screaming for their 15,000 mile service.

:D
