I thought I would share with you my experiences from my local dealer when I took the car in last Friday to have some warranty issues fixed. These are :

1. Rattle or knock from the rear seats
2. The other party complains of poor sound quality on the Bluetooth phone connection
3. Memory seats do not move when the other key is used
4. SMS doesn't work with the Bluetooth
5. Door mirrors do not automatically fold when car is locked
6. TMC does not work on Business Nav.

To cut a very long story short, as I have explained the bluetooth issue and the TMC issue on other threads, of the six items they managed to fix 2. The knock from the rear seats, and the memory seats problem.

The other issues they are either saying can't be done, or that the car will have to go in again. Having read this forum for some time now, I seem to know more about the car than my dealer, and also that some UK dealers seem to be better clued in than others. Mine doesn't seem to have much knowledge on the "systems" and "add on's" in the E60. In the past they have been fine at servicing my E46's, and I'm beginning to think that this is their only strength.

Moan over.

Cheers,

Malc.

Number 5 in your list can be enabled via the dealers service computer, Iceman had this done last week and my dealer said they can do it next time I'm in, just need to let them hook the car up for 15 minutes or so. while-u-wait job.

IMO bluetooth issues...ongoing saga, not really BMW's fault entirely, in a lot of cases, i think bluetooth standards are not being followed by a lot of cell phone companies and most are doing their own spin on the standards. Its a bit like when a new computer game is realease that supports grafix cards x,y then someone buys card z and wants to know why it doesn't work quite right with the game...just a fact of life with this type of technology and I think for time being bluetooth will be the same.

saw an E60 last week with an aftermarket Nokia BT kit installed that the owner had done by a local ICE shop. Needless to say it worked perfectly, was very discreet and as the phone was also Nokia.

I actually knew the answer to No. 5 when I took the car in as I had seen it on the forum, and I even explained it to them. The service people claimed they checked it out and that there is nothing on my car that lets them do it.

When it goes back in I'll take a print out of the car memory settings from the thread on the forum.

It was another reason why I wasn't happy with their level of service.

Cheers,

Malc.

Is item number five on you list standard in the E60?

5. Door mirrors do not automatically fold when car is locked

Or is it an European option only?

This is the first time I ever hear of the mirrors folding themselves automatically, I usually fold them my self manually when taking the car to the car wash.

Auto Folding mirrors is only available in countries other that the USA. Just one of those many things that we cannot get in US spec BMWs.

In Europe:

If you have the folding mirrors and your dealer has the latest software for his device (version 13), he can activate the function "mirrors fold when lock button pressed and held down".

They can't fold automatically when you lock the car!

You have to press and hold the lock button pressed until they are folded!

I think Malc knows this, I just want clear this up for everybody else!

Until they start to fold, to be annoyingly precise..

Thanks for the info will try it the next time. Currently I hold it until they are folded, because I thought it works this way.

Thanks!

It shows you're learning everyday something new, and this forum is a great place of information!

Malc,

I posted the original memory settings on the thread in this forum a few months back when my dealer printed the listing for me. As you're in South Wales like me, which dealer are you using out of interest. Not that many BMW dealers in South Wales.
If its the same dealer as mine I'll be amazed they couldn't do the folding mirrors by remote as they've done it for me after the first time I took it in. However, they originally said they couldn't do it but when I got to my car and tried it (by holding the lock button) it worked. So they didn't even realise they had done it.
