I ordered my E60 yesterday here in the U.S.

My car is currently scheduled for week 8 production (last week of Febrary).

* Anyone know how long it takes to usually receive the VIN?

* Do you know (based on your experience) how long it takes from start of production to "ready for pick up" at the dealer?

The dealer told me 6 weeks, but I'm guessing that they may be "over promising". That just sounds quick to be built and then shipped across the pond and then shipped to California (where I live).

same here, just ordered 525i on january. my car is scheduled to be built on last week of january. they told me to expect the car maybe at the end of march - beginning of april.

 

Did you get a VIN yet (for tracking purposes)?

 

Anyone else have news on this topic? I'd love to know how long this all really takes (in the US).

My 545 is not with me yet but:

12/15 ordered

12/18 car went from "on order" to "scheduled or in production"

1/14 went to "awaiting transport"

1/18 went to "in route to prep center"

1/30 arrived at NY prep center"

Now waiting for it to be shiped to dealer

 

I immediately got my Production number just after I ordered it. At what point do you receive the VIN?

Some time before Production (How long before?), during Production, or sometime thereafter?

just ask your dealer about it. they will give you as soon as they know the production code. or..you can register to BMW circle at BMWUSA.com. there you can track your car's progress. you can also get the vin number there.

My order is scheduled for production on Feb 10. My VIN showed up on the Owner's Circle on Jan 29, 12 days before production. Its status also changed from "On Order" to "Scheduled or In Production".
