With MY07 production starting next month, I have to believe you can do better than $1,400 over invoice. There are geographic factors--not sure where you live.

I'm in the SF Bay area. I am pretty firm on the packages and options I want. When I have looked at Dealers in CA that show inventory, there seems to be VERY little 530i selection. Maybe I need to look out-of-state?

$1400 over invoice is fairly reasonable.. If you need to get the car urgently then i think you should go for it. When you buy out-of-state it's gonna take some time for the shipping, transaction, etc.

My experience has been that dealer web sites aren't very reliable when it comes to available (in stock, and particularly, in transit) cars. I'd suggest calling dealers within a reasonable driving distance and see what kind of a deal you can get--and make them aware that you know about MY07 production starting in 3 weeks. Dealers should be very flexible given the MY07s coming, particularly once they know you're well-informed.
