Hello all. I was hoping to get some advice from veteran e60 owners. I recently bought 2005 545i with the works. It was cpo and i have the extended warranty. Now the big question...should i buy the extra maintenance plan. I believe the price ranges from 1700-2000 dollars. It would only really get me two extra years before it expires. The original plan expires 5/31/09. According to the car, by the next 16,000 miles i will need an oil change and both sets of brakes replaced. This should be taken care of before may...is it worth then buying the plan for the extra 2 years or just pay for service with the money i keep.

Thanks

As with any other vehicle you basically have 3 choices for your maintenance:
DIY, good independent mechanic, dealership

From reading this board it seems that there are quite a few DIY'ers and on Bimmerfest.com as well so if you have any inclination toward that route it seems as though you'll be in good company.

Obviously you have a dealership you like nearby and are considering them as an options, but I'm sure you realize that their labor rates are going to be high just like with any car.

The independent mechanic is the X factor. I have been told that this is the best route to go if you can find one once your car is out of warranty, or you want non-warranty work done. Have you considered that option?

as an advise from a fellow member to another. E60s are very hard to maintain after a couple of yrs, one small issue will cost u an arm and leg.

Small example. If you get the airbag and seatbelt warning, it 80% means ur mat sensor is damaged and needs to be replaced, that'll cost you between 1,000$-1,400$ depending on your area. And thats just a small tiny issue, not even engine wise.

Figure out what maintenance is determined by mielage vs time. Calculate your mileage over the next 2 years and see if it is worth it

these are not maintenance issue, but, warranty issues above.
