My Ride: 2004 BMW 530I SPORT. BLACK BEAUTY. HEADS UP, NAVI,AC SCHNITZER ROOF SPOILER, TRUNK LIP SPOILER, 20 IN AXIS PENTA (NOW PAINTED BLACK). M-TECH KIT, EIBACH SPORTS.
My car has 49, 630 miles on it. Dealer told me that it would be for my benefit to get extended warranty and maintainance. Do I need both or any at all? If so, what are the costs? Did not bother to ask the dealer. Wanted to get some feedback from my fellow members first. Anyone else currently dealing with this issue? How long does the extended warranty and maintainance last for?

My Ride: On Order as of May 6- 2007 530i Titanium Grey and Grey Leather, with Sport Package, Premium Pkg, Cold Pkg.
2006 Porsche Boxster
I am planning on doing it myself. It extends the warranty to 6 years or 100000 miles if you plan to keep it that long. Which, I do. I also tend to put many miles on my car.

Cost depends on your car. Extended warranty from BMW for 525 or 530 is $2,875 while 545/550 is $3,375. This extends the warranty for 2 more years or another 50,000 miles. Just had this same discussion with my dealer and he made a copy of the price sheet for me. This is for the BMW extended warranty, not the maintenance. BMW extended maintenance is $1,195 for another two years/50,000 miles. Most dealers also offer thrid party warranties as well where prices vary. As with most things, these prices may be negotiable...

Negotiate the price and get both. Read the fine print and make sure it covers I-drive, electronics. My dealer told me the BMW warranty doesnt cover the electronics but they had a different brand that does.

I'd take the extended maintenance for $1200 and probably pass on the extended warranty.
Extended maintenance seems like a good deal as a single brake job or inspection 2 would make it worth it. BTW, if your dealer isn't willing to bargain, you can go through another dealer as it's transferable. Also, I believe the price is expected to go up sometime in april.

What happens if your warranty expired and things act up? I'd prefer warranty over maintenance for BMW. For 50K miles, you can only have on brake job done at most. With parts from discount BMW dealers like Garry Romani, you can buy stuffs at good low price.
Anyone has bought extended warranty that aslo cover electronics and Nav/i-Drive/radio/CD? BMW extended warranty does not cover Nav and Radio/CD

Get both if you can afford it. As others mention make sure it covers electronics.
It also depends how long you plan to keep the car. If you plan to sell it before 100k and you can do basic maintenance yourself you may cut a corner and skip on maintenance.
Just my point of view. I do my own maintenance for both my cars. When my M5 goes out of warranty I will use the online diagnostics/coding through BMWTIS.com For my M3 I have MODIC on my laptop.
Good luck

My Ride: 2004 530i - titanium grey/blk/anthracite, Nav, SMG, Sport, Premium, Cold Weather, HUD, moonroof, heated steering, xenon active lighting, Dakota leather, power all.
I purchased a CPO 530i and also got the extended maintenance warrant for $1300 at point of sale. I did not think to ask if the CPO extended warranty covers electronics....does anyone know the answer??
