Car has 53K on it, I screwed up and didn't get an extended warranty before the factory 50K expired so here is what the dealer quoted me right out of his book, I didn't try to negotiate and I assume they can be talked down a bit:
$100 Deductible
24mo/24K $2825
36/36K 3179
48/50k 3922
250 Deductible
24/24K $2580
36/36k 2857
48/50K 3381
So, if I intend to keep this car, which I do, is the extended warranty worth it? If it was a Civic I say no, 1st BMW so I really hope it is as reliable. I know repairs are expensive but I have always been the one to think extended warranties were a rip off. What do you all think?
Next question, how do these prices look? I have nothing to compare them to. How much do you think they can come off these prices?

Ask them if the warranty is direct from BMW or another company like Mercury. This is what I have:
Coverage Selected: American Mercury Platinum (Total Miles)
Term Selected: 48 Months / 100000 Miles
Deductible: $0 Deductible
Total Amt: $3120.12
They also give you payment options 0% interest which is nice if you don't have the $3000 to spend. Here's what it covers: http://www.autowarrantybroker.com/extended...ns_default.aspx
Oh and GET THE WARRANTY

I agree ... while the 525 is pretty reliable one major mechanical failure after your warranty expires will cover the cost of a BMW warranty. And, since you're so so little over the covered warranty, I can't imagine why the prices would jump so much for a BMW Warranty. It does look like you're being quoted an independent insurance package and IMHO the price quotes is a bit high!

I'm pretty sure BMW uses an independent insurance company for all its extended warranties if you don't buy it at the time you purchase your car.
Like I said ask your dealership if it's BMW covering the extended or another company. If it's another company BMW is definitely marking the price up.

I have mine through Fidelity Warranty Services, obtained from BMW of Atlanta. I have a $100 deductible. Last week the car was in for a transmission seal issue. They replaced the seal, but state a new tranny may be needed. Cost of the seal replacement? $895 bucks. Cost of a new tranny? Around $8000 bucks. Cost to me? $152 bucks. Not free, but much easier to swallow. The cost was around $2500 a couple years ago. The peace of mind is invaluable - I'm not worried until I hit the 100K mark.
