Thumbs up

I am in the last year of my 4 years of free service and warranty. It will actually expire in Jan. of 2009.
I was wondering if anybody here has purchased an extended warranty and what the terms and condidtions were. How much did it cost? What does it cover? Did you go through BMW or somebody else?

Overall is it worth the cost you think?

Or is it just easier to sell the car and buy a new one.
That would be my favorite choice, but not sure about the wife.

How much do you get for a 2005 545iA with 26K miles in the real world?
I see the adds on-line, but was wondering if anybody has any real world experience on how much they got for their car.

Thanks!

i was quoted $2200 to extended the normal 4yr/50k to 6 yr/100k for my 525i when i bought the car new. i was told bmw only offers this extended warranty, and other yrs/miles combination will be from a 3rd party.
even the bmw extended warranty is not as exclusive as new car warranty, since it doesn't cover electronics/navigation, don't know all the details but it's definitely not as comprehensive.

unfortunately selling it would be a pretty big hit... do a search on craigslist and you will see car brokers are selling lots of 545i for not too much money. my friend bought a 05 545i with 39k miles, pretty much loaded, for $32k plus tax. i figure 13k miles less will give you another 3-4k? we are in the bay area too.

extended warranty or extended maintenance?

I guess I would be interested in both, depending on what the difference is in service and price.
If you have any information for either, please let me know.

Thanks

i ended up getting just the extended maintenance from twinkidneygrill.com. I noticed when you walk into a dealer they are trying to charge about $2200 for that. On twinkidney I purchased for $1595. Which i think it pays for itself. My brother who has a 3 series brought his car in at 99,000 to do service, they replaced his brakes rotors, did inspection 1, replaced all oxygen sensors, spark plugs, and all drive belts.

I think it's worth it..but with the following caveat..

the extended maintainence really is a good deal. prior to the advent of CBS based service, the green bars on your car would indicate when your service was due. Remember the "Service Two" at around 70K miles would cost close to 700 buckeroos. That's almost 3/4 of the cost of the maintainence plan and if you add the oil changes, wipers, brakes, etc............it makes sense.

The extended warranty, though, does not. It does not cover any of the electronics, the Nav, HUD, CD/DVD, etc. It does cover most major mechanical issues so if you do experience one of those..then this will in all likelihood pay for itself. But averaging around 2K, that's a pretty big hit to shell out for something that may or may not happen,...

So, even though I bought both and live in fear about the CD player dying on me, the truth of the matter is what your comfort levels are with this car, how long you want to keep it, and what your other options are for service.... It's a complex decision but factor everything in it because it will certainly not be based on one individual parameter....

hope this helps...
