Shouldn't the country that, on balance, has the highest VAT rate & the lowest tax-paid price have the lowest pre-tax price? Wht's the VAT rate in Holland?
Actually the country with the highest tax rate has the lowest pre-tax price. And that is holland. Holland has 47% duty + 19% VAT on new cars.

I bought the car in Germany without VAT - And they never asked me to pay VAT in poland. So really i have my car without VAT. i also dropped the invoice value by 50% and paid 8.5% over that - so it was a bargain!
Didnt you buy the car second hand in Germany? If u did the price included VAT and u did pay VAT in Germany.
Further more i hope u wont get a dutch accountant check cause they definitely wont agree with the "boekwaarde" of the car since u dropped the invoice value by 50%. Also i hope u yourself are registered in Poland as a resident cause otherwise dutch laws like "bijtelling" and other bullsh*t will apply to u. Finally i hope u wont get into trouble if u want to sell the car later on cause u will have to sell it in Poland since i assume you are driving around with Poland number plates.
Mmm, personally i think the whole situation was not too smart but i hope i am wrong. Good luck with the car anyways.

What is that 47% duty called? It seems that places such as Germany or UK only levy VAT as the sole tax, as long as the car is manufactured within EU.
So does it mean that if I order a RHD BMW from a Dutch dealer for export to outside of EU, I'll get a refund of the 47% plus the 19%?

Georgos, Nice that u remember I bought the car 2nd hand in germany. Thats correct. But i also got it without VAT from the dealer. And the dealer put it on export plates for me. i am registered in poland so i wont have the issues u mentioned. I'm a finance person so i have covered my trail. Finally i have a plan for when i sell it.

Is VAT payable in 2nd hand cars?? In the UK at least, there's no VAT on 2nd hand cars as VAT is already charged when it was bought new.

The fact that it was second hand, preregistered (and more than 6 months old I presume) makes it clear why you didn't have to pay VAT in Poland. So you paid only the excise which you pay on the amount on the invoice so if it's your Dutch company selling to your Polish one you can write 100 EUR on the invoice and the Polish tax man is happy.

Do you have it on Polish plates?

By "duty" do you mean a "customs duty"? 47%??? So 66% of what you pay goes towards tax and duty? Here in California (Los Angeles County) the sales tax is 8.25% and the US customs duty is something like 2.5%.
