Engine replacement - 2 weeks for parts to arrive

The engine in my 530xi needs to be replaced as water got into the engine in the big storm in MA 3 weeks back. We're talking < 12" of water, not even enough to come in the doors. Anyway, followed a cop and some other cars through some water and of course the 530 stops dead in the middle. All the sh*tboxes made it through no problem. Apparently water came into the engine through the air intake. Kind of annoying but given that my neighbors have flooded basements, it's hard to complain. Yes, I feel stupid now that I didn't take the X5.
Anyway, the main reason for the post is that it's taken 2 weeks for my local dealer to get his hands on a 3.0L engine. He STILL doesn't have it 2 weeks later. He said that there is none in the US and it's being ordered directly from Germany. How frickin' retarded is that?

Well of course I didn't realize it was 12" of water - it was actually probably 8" at most since it wasn't that close to the doors when it stopped. Only reason I went through was because many other cars made it through (including a cop!) with no issues at all at the same speed. Anyway, thank you for your negative contribution, texa73.
AC, it's paid for by insurance so no cost to me except deductible. An M5 was at the same dealer with the same issue. This happened to a lot of people in New England during this storm.

My Ride: 2008 535i: June 6th start build, complete June 17th, at NY Port July 5th, at dealer July 10th, took delivery Friday July 13- Plantimum Bronze/Natural Brown Leather/Light Poplar, Sport Package, Sport Auto, Active Steering, Premium Package, CWP & PDC. Dinan Performance Software 384hp & 421 ft/lbs.
Your lucky that they are covering it. I had a 1997 528 E39 which had to be towed because it would not start after I went through a puddle slowly that was not even 8". I only sucked water into the airfilter enough to stop air, so it was an easy fix. Anyway when water enters the combustion chambers and hits the heat it turns into steam and breaks pistons, wrist pins and/or connecting rods - any of which I was told would not be covered.

The engine is in and it took 2 weeks. I guess they do have spare engines sitting around in Europe somewhere which I would expect.
Yes, I think it is amazing that water so low could be sucked up the air intake into the engine. So many other cars went through the same water at the same speed with no problems. Might have been a freak wave but I didn't notice anything while driving through and either did my wife & passenger.
Anyway, water in the throttle body now so that needs replacing too. The saga goes on.
