At the End of August I placed a order for a silver gray/gray 530i with the specific instruction that it needs to be a October build(MP3 issue). I even showed him the BMW bulletin that states the changes to the 5 series for Sept and Oct.

Dealer told told me no problem, I asked should I hold off on the order to ensure it be a Oct build car, he said it wouldnt be a problem I said ok and placed the order.

Around the middle of Sept I checked with BMWNA and it turns out my car entered and finished production, which would make it a Sept build.

Informed my dealer that the car had entered/finished production, at which time I was then told that he couldnt guarantee that the car would be Oct production and that he thought it would be Oct build. If I had known 3 weeks prior when I asked if i should hold off on the order to ensure Oct build then obviously I would not have had him place the order that early.

So at this point plane tickets had already been purchased and a partial refund was the only option. So dealer comes up with a solution, cancel current order and take a 530(last one left) from their allocation and configure with my options. 1 week later I get a call saying the order had went through and was set for production Oct 1, except somehow the system entered the wrong interior color, black instead of gray.

That wasnt acceptable and car already entered status 150. At that point I was given the option to take one of the 2 cars. I choose the Sept build with a discount of $700 off(the cost of a new CCC, doesnt include labor) which was my educated guess what it cost to make a Sept build car Oct compliant.

At this point everything is set, made some hotel reservations. Couple days later I get a call from dealer saying the Sept build car has disappeared and only the Oct build car with black interior is available. WTF? Apparently when a ED order is canceled the car gets purged from inventory and goes somewhere else.

At this point canceling travel plans would cost me time and $.

So dealer makes this offer from the suggestion of a 3rd party.

Go to Europe pickup car with black interior and do ED as normal.
When I get back, I sign for a Oct build 530 with zero miles with the orginal terms of the deal and without the MF lease rate reduction that occurred in October since the orginal deal was with a Sept MF lease rate. They felt this was fair due to having to switch out 2 cars already.

ED trip is about 2 weeks away...

Thoughts are welcome...

To be continued.....

Well despite they apparent mis-information by the dealer/sales staff the dealer sure seems to be trying to work with you. Looks like you get to do an ED and still utimately end up with the car u want - I think u ought to give this a try. Good luck - I hope these options work out for u.

Someone at your BMW center is thinking...finally. I'd seriously consider the revised new deal. You get a brand new 530i to drive on the Autobahn, then will have the exact car you want, shipped straight from Dingolfing, delivered home.

I honestly don't see the point of doing an ED when you won't be driving the same car you're buying, but maybe it's just me. It seems to destroy the whole magic of the thing, kind of like dumping a new girlfriend just out of convenience.

Because he presumably was going to take a vacation, and probably has airline tickets bought and travel plans made that can't easily be cancelled. Instead of canceling all of that, arranging another ED (when this one was already screwed up), waiting an extra two months for the car, etc. etc. etc., I think it's a reasonable suggestion to just order the right car, and do the ED trip he'd been planning on.

Merzbow,

youre right, not having the car I drove during ED does take away from the whole experience, which is part of my frustration along with the dealer screw ups and mis-information, my options never changed from day 1, dealer just couldnt get it right. Youd think if all you do is place local and ED orders for cars theres not much you could screw up. I'd expect screw-ups like this if on slow days the sales people had to go over to service and replace transmissions, oil changes, rotate tires, switch out CCCs, and upgrade CCC software.

and as das said once the delievery date got closer and just when I thought all is well with the order and the problem was corrected here comes another dealer screw-up, to cancel I'd lose $ and time that has been allocated. If I had to cancel at this point, the next best time for me to do an ED would be April/May, mainly because I anticipate the weather over there getting colder than it is now along with snow.

the only plus with this revised deal, besides keeping plans, is that I would start at 0 miles on the properly ordered and configured car

Here is the latest:

Went and did the Euro delivery had an ok time, that was due to all the back and forth that I posted earlier. But I made the best of it.

Anyway, I'm back now and so I go to finalize the deal:

which was:
"So dealer makes this offer from the suggestion of a 3rd party.

Go to Europe pickup car with black interior and do ED as normal.
When I get back, I sign for a Oct build 530 with zero miles with the orginal terms of the deal and without the MF lease rate reduction that occurred in October since the orginal deal was with a Sept MF lease rate. They felt this was fair due to having to switch out 2 cars already."

I get to the finance table and here is what happened:

Montly payment has stayed the same.
The agreed upon price (adj Cap Cost)has went up $2400. So instead of it being ED invoice + dealer profit, its basically US invoice price - $700.
The MF has been lowered.

To make a long story short the deal I posted above and in my 1st post changed, and I was
informed it changed once I got to the finance table.

At that point I left.
