HEY GUYS,
I just got this bad bad bad news from my dealer. :( Due to the fact that there were some strikes last week at the Bayerische Motoren Werke factory in Leipzig (over some wage negotiations, or so) all the scheduled deliveries of the cars for Luxembourg must have been postponed for up to 3 or 4 weeks!!!! :nono: Imagine that!
I was promised in February my car would be here just around Easter - or the late April - the latest (since on Apr 29 I will have my birthday - such birthday gift sounded really cool back then  ), but now as I receive a dealer's phone call with these bad news - I might expect to pick up my silver m-pack beauty somewhere in the end of May? C'mon BMW.....
:(

If anyone has more info or any kind of insight on this subject - please share...

Were they on strike for 4 weeks - otherwise how could the delay be that much. Sounds like the same mentality employed by construction companies to justify delay !

Anyway - it will be with you at some point AND it will be worth the wait.

I thought they were only building 3 series in Leipzig? I don't think there have been any delays for the Dingolfing plant other than people with the night vision option.

Thats what I thought, too. Only the 3 series.
Maybe your dealer is BS'ing you.....
My car was ordered on 3/17 ans is already on a ship somewhere on the Atlantic.

aybeesea 04-11-2006 08:48 AM

I ordered my E60 4th March. It has been built to my spec and was delivered to the dealer in the UK 5th April.

I am moving plates from my existing car so after the admin, I hope to pick it up in a couple of days time.

No strike affecting this one...

I put my order in sometime in March.. it was scheduled to hit the line the first week in April. To my delight I was told last week it was already built and was awaiting transport.

Sounds like your dealer is giving you the shaft.

wmbiii 04-12-2006 02:43 AM

This sounds fishy, I'd check with another dealer. Mine was ordered 3/15 and is on a ship to states.

luxembourg 04-12-2006 04:16 AM

Thanks for all insights

It's also unclear to me why few hours strike would affect delivery up to 3-4 weeks.. as it doesn't even sound reasonable.
Well, afterall that's all I heard from a dealer's. And I'm also dissapointed having to wait for soooo long, and at the same time to hear how fast people get their deliveries :ermm: even overseas!
I personally think, it is a big shame for Luxembourg - but then again, we're just a small monarchy here (however the only Grand Duchy in the world ;) perhaps big automakers don't treat such country seriously...?? :(
Well, had I been aware of this earlier - I would have ordered my E60 in Germany (the closest BMW dealer is in Trier - about 30 minutes drive away from my home), but now I am stuck with belgian/luxembourgoise dealership anyway, so all I have left is to wait, wait, and wait...

Well, anyway, thanks for the good word again! and HAPPY EASTER to all!

drjochen 04-12-2006 07:25 AM

Maybe they just "forgot" to order the car???

luxembourg 04-19-2006 04:50 AM

Hey guys, I just got the update on my long-awaited E60.
Apparently, the delay in delivery will be even LONGER than I thought  and than they initially told me. But it is not due to the BMW's general strikes but only some "mistery strike" at "this M-pack producer"!!! I am just getting a little angry now since nobody is capable of telling the actual pick-up date! All they could do today was to suggest me to change the order and get rid of the Sports Pack! They actually confirmed that the standard delivery time (order - to pickup) is no longer than 3 weeks here!!! So, if I'd get rid of sports pack now, I could still even change the color, etc and have my BMW delivered first week of May! Otherwise, they said I should expect late June, or later... What's going on???

So , guys, I'd appreciate if anyone has any further info on issues such as:
- is there only one factory building E60s with M-pack in Germany?
- If so: do they produce all the "components" by themselfves (I mean like: spoiler kit, lower suspension, sport seats, M-steering wheel, 18" 135 type wheels, alu-cube inside, etc)
- perhaps only one of the suppliers of the above is blocking their deliveries for BMW, hence it blocks the whole car building?

And I was so happy to finally decide to go for a sports pack - for me it was the best option from the list, and now I would have to get rid of that?

Please, advise! :help:

big_ipaq 04-19-2006 04:58 AM

I am pretty sure the stealer is selling you BS. Try another dealer and see what he answers. You may still order M-Pack from another dealer and get it in first week of May.

If I had to bet, I'd say your dealer sold the car you ordered to someone else.

big_ipaq 04-19-2006 08:59 AM

Exactly my thoughts. They had a good deal and thought you're the one they will foul with.

Ask for some official papers from BMW, that mentions this delay. Strike? At BMW? At their partners? Hmmmm...

wmbiii 04-19-2006 09:34 AM

Is there a number for BMW is your country? We have BMW North America who we could call on this issue. Sounds like a lot of BS.

my530i 04-19-2006 09:46 AM

Sorry to hear that. I know it's a growing pain :(

Berlin.BMER 04-20-2006 12:36 AM

 Have not heard anything about it here. Cancel the order and make that short trip to Germany and order your car there

oyster 04-20-2006 01:35 AM

Concerning Your questions:

E60s, including those with the M package, are built at the Dingolfing plant in Bavaria.
Of course, BMW does not make the M parts themselves, but buy it from various suppliers.
So, theoretically, it is possible, that a strike at one of the suppliers can delay production.

BUT, the current strikes in the German car and supplying industry have so far been only warning strikes, for a couple of hours, max one day, although several BMW suppliers have been hit. Those warning strikes are a ceremony accompanying the negotiations on worker wages every other year. I don?t think, that so far, they had any effect on the ongoing production of cars at BMW or the availability of parts.

So, probably Your dealer is just giving You a lot of crap. :(

E60_530D 04-20-2006 05:17 AM

Sound like BS to me. I ordered my car in the UK (530D M Sport) at the end of February and was told it would arrive about now, and it turned up yesterday. Doesn't sound like there are many delays !!!

HEY GUYS,

Thanks for all the replies so far and all your insight.

As the MYSTERIOUS strike at this MYSTERIOUS M-package contiuned... my dealer offered me a loaner for the time being. Well, it's nothing like I'd like - I ordered 520d, and now I got 530i instead... but well, I will not complain, although I have already several thoughts on this car:

1) it doesn't feel that fast as 258 hp would suggest - to me 520d with 163 hp just "feels" much quicker ( I know - it's a torque thing...)

2) it drinks like crazy.... 12, 15, even 16 L/100km.. and the 95 is already 1,15 EUR/L.... Ouch! :(

3) Car is super-sporty and handles unbelievably - never driven anything like that before...

4) NAVI Buss - is total waste of money

5) LOGIC 7 - doesn't play like 1000 EUR optional sound system (dissapointed!)

6) Runflats - much more comfortable as I predicted (after reading the forum)

7) Comfortable seats - BEST part of this car (I wish I ordered them.......... :(

8) SUNROOF - WOW, I wish I'd thought about it earlier.... another must-have for my next car...

10) Electronic (advanced) AC - for me: waste of money, annoying operation and nothing like those electronic 2-sides AC in my E-38, or E-39, I'm glad I will stick with the standard AC...

11) Standard steering wheel is just horrible... It feels like I'm driving some Huyndai or something similar... Awful! So, only the sports-leather wheel makes any sense in E60 (my opinion)

12) QUALITY issues - Oh.. well... much worse than I would expect as a previous very-satisfied owner of 1997'E-39 and 1999'E-38.... Well, for what it's worth - I will write a separate thread here about quality issues on this E60 loaner, but for now: ENJOY few pictures!!
