My Ride: E60 530d Sport - Carbon Black, Black Dakota Leather, Media Pack (satnav, bluetooth, CD changer), heated font seats, through load
Default

I collect my new E60 in a few days. Maybe even tomorrow, if I'm lucky.

I've been reading about all the problems that can show up on a new car. So I'm putting together a list of things to check before I sign for the care being 100% OK.

Exterior - paintwork, wheels,etc

Check paintwork for any scratches or chips
Check paintwork for any defects (thin or orangepeel finish)
Check wheels for scratches or any other damage

Interior

Check interior for any defects
Check mileage of car (make sure it's not been "demonstrated")
Check that cupholders work OK

Options Installed?

Check Satnav works
Check Satnav disk is 2005 version
Check Bluetooth software version (is 13.3?)(how do I check?)
Check CD changer is installed and works (take CDs too )
Check for split/fold seats in rear

I am presuming that the PDI will have covered stuff like lights not working, car runs OK. But of course I will do a test drive.

If anyone has any comments or suggestions for more items, please let me know.

Check the window glass to make sure there are no pits or scratches. Check the headlight mounts under the hood to make sure they are not cracked.
Verify the tire air pressure.

Check your speed. It is easy to drive too fast. If married, check your wife at the dealership and leave her there. My wife has a mantra when she is in my car which I cannot repeat here.

What would you do if you found someone had been driving it?

Bangle, your list is a good one!

Probably should've added it to the FAQ thread on the subject...

Check that the tires are the right way around, a few people here had them on the wrong way.
Check for the green strip in the windscreen if you ordered it, mine came without it and was fitted later.

Turn the car around and look at in natural light from different angles. While I'm confident you will not have a paint experience like mine (I think my case was very rare)...as an FYI...my car looked perfect if the sun was in front of it and awful if it was behind.
