Dealer scratches perfect factory rim & lower sideskirt
A week ago my FTM went off due to a slow leak. I took the car into the dealer, where they told me I would need a new tire due to a small nail near the sidewall, which I never questioned. They ordered an OEM tire and I had an appointment this morning. I asked the SA about their tire changing equipment and he assured me no part of the machine ever touches the rim other than a nylon roller and there would be no damage. Well...the car was returned to me with scratches and gouges in the paint around the perimeter of the rim and to boot, the lower section of the painted sideskirt forward of the left rear tire is also scratched.
The SA immediately apologized and offered to have the rim refinished to which I said no. My 2006 has less than 20K miles and the rest of the car is perfect. I also said if there's a problem down the road with the finish, they'll tell me I used the wrong wheel cleaner, etc.
I now have to return Monday AM so his bosses can see the damage. I expect a new rim and the lower section then repaired, with a BMW loaner. Right?

Funny you should mention this. Today, I was getting a new tire since I damaged one on a pothole a week or so ago
and this afternoon, when my dealer (Bobby Rahal BMW) called me to let me know the car was ready (hear that DrLev99?) they explained that they scratched the wheel on the tire machine and they've already ordered me a new one. I told them I was happy that they didn't try to only repair it and the SA explained that there's no way they'd try to hide something like that and that they know that the right thing to do is replace, rather than repair it.
How's that for an awesome dealer?
Good luck with your issue xiTouring -- at least they've admitted that they caused the damage! Let them give you a new wheel and have them repair your old one and sell it to someone else...
