hi Everyone
I was having a warranty issue with a BMW dealer. Apparently water has gone into my trunk and damaged the Tire Pressure Monitor and also the TCU since half my rear lights wont work. ALthough there is a technical bulletin issued by BMW stating that water may go into the trunk and damage electronics, they are stating that this is not the case for this vehicle, and since I bought it from the auction, I was seeking to have it fixed under warranty. Anyhow I asked him for a copy of the maintenance records and he stated that he can not give it to me and thats for BMW use only. I have never heard of such a thing and was looking for your opinions on it. I thought asking for maintenance records was a common thing to get a look at the history of the car that you are the rightful owner of! Please help!

I was looking for their telephone number but only found an online form. Maybe I should fill it out and have them contact me? Unless someone has a telephone number. So Im not going crazy right? THey can show me service records? It seems so simple yet the service representative was so insisting on it.

I don't think they're required to show the maintenance records unless you bough the car from them....

Thank you 5 is alive. That telephone number was exactly what I was looking for. BMW of north america gave me the original dealer it was sold from and told me to call them for the service records. She never mentioned once he wasn't allowed to give it to me. She said she personally did not have access to the computer system that had those records to give me or else she would. I think this guy at my dealership is just playing hard ball. I'm going to call monday and see what skeletons I can dig up. I don't think its fair if there's a service bulletin from BMW stating water gets into the trunk and damages the electrics and they are denying my warranty when exactly that has happened.

The BMW vehicle history report is confidential and is intended for use by BMW NA and a BMW Center only. Optionally the information is shared with a registered owner or prospective buyer. Since your vehicle was not purchased at a BMW Center, the last owner is the registered owner on record with BMW. If you are the legal owner, but not a registered owner in BMW records, the dealer is not obligated to disclose any information to you.

I would try another BMW Center and visit them in person. I have been able to request BMW vehicle history reports from Service Advisors, Client Advisors, and even via Internet forums.

Yes, they are not required or obligated to give you this record. I was told that it is confidential record as it contains the previous owner's info (I bought from a dealer auction). After a little persuading, and changing the registered owner info at the BMW NA to my name, my dealer gave me the history report, minus previous owner info which was still part of it as the original owner.
