My old Lexus was stolen and wrecked, and the CarFax report showed up perfectly clean when I ran it for fun a few years later. Not sure what good it is if it can't tell you about something like that.

Ya I ran a car that I knew had some damage before and it came out clean too.

BUT carfax is better than nothing when you have nothing to check against...

Not sure how this is true, considering both your and my experiences.

Nothing would be better.... because it would not give the illusion of safety in a potential used car purchase.

Well in hopes that something pops up and show that its bad... even if it comes up clean i wouldnt stop there... Car fax is a tool to use to prove that the car is bad... you see what i mean now?

I did a check on my Camry which was involved in accident a couple of years ago, and nothing shows up on the CarFax. It looks so clean. The accident was reported to Department of Motor Vehicle.
