My Ride: My 5 and I met on Father's Day 2008 and have been together ever since. 20" Wheels (Make TBD), premium package, sport package, AiB V3 upgrade and a Passport Escort 8500 Radar Detector.
Seeing how we're all here for pretty much the same reason, I figured I should start a topic on car insurance. If anyone has any kind of information or advice on discounts or coverages they can post it here for eveyone to take advantage of.
My contribution will be the "Occupational Discount". I encourage everyone to give their insurance company a call and inquire about this discount. Most companies have a list of occupations that qualify for a discount, but they won't give it to you unless you ask for it. I apologize in advance if you are not on the list, but it's definately worth a try. I was able to "qualify" under traffic/transportation engineering through Geico. This little discount saves me 20%+ on every 6-month policy renewal. Not all occupations will be 20% but even 5% is worth a go!

Wow! Military personnel get an awesome rate! As they should!
We dont really expect it but some soldiers that dont have rank or time in service really dont make much money.
a temp tech job at fort lewis pays 25k a year whereas the national guard base; camp murray; the same job pays 65k starting.
Gotta love the guard

USAA definately is incredible. Military personnel really dont make great money in comparison to their civilian counterparts. Luckily, as you transition to the civilian sector you get to keep USAA! i was making about $40K as a Signals Intelligence Analyst in the US Army. I transitioned to the civilian sector in november working in the same capacity... and well... um, I traded in my 99 maxima for an 08 535, we'll just leave it at that
I dont know how many US military personnel are on here, but if you are, or are retired, you NEED to have USAA.

USAA is the best. I pay $780 every 6 months for both of my cars (550i and Infiniti M35).
FYI: USAA recently became more liberal with who they accecpt. That is how I was able to become a member.
Membership is open to:
Children of USAA members.
Active-duty officers and enlisted personnel.
National Guard and Selected Reserve officers and enlisted personnel.
Officer candidates in commissioning programs (Academy, ROTC, OCS/OTS).
Former military personnel:
Retired officers and enlisted personnel.
Former officers and enlisted personnel who separated on or after 01/01/1996.
Former USAA members who had auto or property insurance.
