Hey JDN, I went back and re-read my posts in this thread about debadging.
I can now say that I know someone who debadged the "big kahuna"! That's pretty cool!

Well, I'm happy I ordered mine debadged. It has nothing to do with image, as said here before it just makes it look cleaner.
I also insisted on having the car free of stickers and what have you. The dealer here puts a large sticker across the rear window. I wanted the number plate without the dealers name but that didn't happen for some reason.
Today I changed the tax disc holder (the one DD has) for a ?1.50 Halfords model, all for the same reason.
I don't have any stuff dangling from the mirror or in sight. I like basic beauty I suppose.
I agree with DD though that it is pretty nice to overtake someone with 140 mph, leaving them just enough time to see your 'd' badge. I actually checked with the DVLA if I could get the plate D13SEL, but it was not available.
Just my 2 cents..

Regarding Debadging:
I dont know how 'affordable' BMW's are in Europe and in America, but a 525i is base price of AUD90,000 which is about 52,000 Euro and USD62,000
You can clearly see that ANYONE in Australia who drives a 5 or a 7 has respect out on the road because of the price diff (i think you can buy a 545i for USD65,000).
The 530i i'm taking delivery of cost, sticker price, after optioning, AUD120,450 which is about USD84,000 and 69,000Euro.
The base price of a 545i in Australia is AUD157,000 which is about 90,000 Euro and USD110,000.
After all this conversion, you can see that we pay alot for shipping, HEAVILY in luxury car tax (any car above AUD50,000) and stamp duty. So you hardly find ANY one who debadges. Heck, we drove a 318i for 8 years, proudly displaying the badge, with no qualms about what other people thought. So, i think, it really depends on the country you're in. To date, in Melbourne, i've seen a total of 4 7 series cars - which is about the most you'll see here, because they start at AUD180,000.
The average family income in Australia will only be about 45,000 - 47,000. Buying a BMW here has much much much more significant connotations about your wealth and status. Having said that, when my car comes in now (on wednesday, not tuesday) it will not be debadged, because the 530i is something to be proud of

The same here in Holland. Although we are the country next to Germany our fine government taxes cars so heavily that they almost are unafordable.
My new 530i has a base price of 61.000 euros. With the chosen options my car costs 84.000 euros wich is about 95.000 dollars.
I could buy a 545i and another car for that kind of money in the US. Maybe some gas prices too? 2,25 euro per litre. I don't know how much it is per gallon but I know you guys in the US pay the same per gallon as we per litre.
