If you're buying from a dealer, they should be able to tell you about the maintenance history of the car. This will tell you if the car has needed more than just normal maintenance, so you don't buy someone else's problem. For just a little more money you might search around and find something with some remaining CPO warranty, which would be worthwhile having.

And don't forget a 545 is more likely to have been thrashed/beaten harden than the other two. Definately check with a mechanic

+1 on the mechanical checkup, and equally important, make sure it has a warranty too!

My dealership has several that are Certified which extends the manufacturer's warranty to 100,000 miles. If you check our website, www.wideworldofcarsbmw.com and see something that you like, I can offer you an excellent deal. Not sure if we are geographically desireable for you though.
