Hi,

I am going to be getting either a 2008 535i or 2008 550i. I am leaning towards the 550i but they seem to be harder to find. I have a few options, either buy from the dealer for a 535i with CPO (range from 36-39k) or a non CPO from BMW dealer 535i with 16k miles for 35k.

The other option is buy from a non BMW dealer. I have access to Autocheck and found a few 535i's for 33k and similar miles (20k miles) and similar packages. The same Luxury dealer also has 2 2008 550i's (list price of 40.5k and 42.5k) with mileage in the low 20's and 1.5-2years of warranty left. I autochecked all the cars and none have any issues. They were lease vehicles just like the BMW dealer vehicles.

I have never bought from a non dealer before and I am a bit weary but they all do have the original warranty left. I would like to be either buy a BMW extended warranty or Easycare possibly.

I am going to be trading in my 2008 Infiniti M35 so that is a consideration as well.

Thanks for any insight.

Jeff,

Looking at your signature you work for a BMW dealer in NY. Ideally, I want to get the car from a BMW dealer and I probably will. I would love to hear any advice from you in dealing with BMW dealers. The other option, i drove a 2008 550i premium/sport/navi with 24k miles on it for 41.9k at Carmax. Trouble with Carmax there is no dealing at all.

Thanks for any advice or opinion.

My only advice is to be totally honest with the dealer. In this economy, the difference between a great and a lousy deal is probably only a couple of hundred dollars. Buy from someone you feel comfortable with, who answers your questions completely and, above all, who returns your calls promptly. You are shopping as much for a dealership and a salesman as you are for a car.
Best of luck,
Jeff
