So I'm scheduled to pick up my 06 530i on Sept 14 via ED. I'm sort of bummed to hear of all these official 06 september changes, as I do not think my car will have them. People have told me that ED cars get built about 30 days before ED pickup. That means my car will be built around Aug 14. Does anyone know for sure when BMW starts building the official 06 E60s? Is a car built in mid-august still not an official 06?

I believe they start builiding the 06's in mid Aug, so that by september the 06's are on dealer lots.

Man, I hope your correct It does seem to make sense though, if your buying an official 06 in Europe to be building them prior to Sept 05.

Does anyone have any insight on this?

thanks

Maybe someone in Europe could reply, but if you want to buy an official 06 E60, do you have wait until September to get it from the dealer lot?

I spoke with my dealer yesterday, and he told me the plant is shutting down for the changes at the end of August, with production starting in September. His best guess was an ED 550 would be ready middle of October. I will be placing my order, as soon as pricing and options are available, hopefully in the first part of August.

I have always heard that BMW shuts down all manufacturing for the month of August. Most of Europe is on vacation at that time. Last year I wanted to take ED in September and my dealer told me the earliest I could get it was October 11 due to the shutdown.

Interesting. So if the plant is shutdown completely for the entire month of August, that means my car should either be built before August or sometime in September. Does anyone know how to find out when the car gets built based on production number?

The info I had when I ordered my 2004 at the end of the year is as follows:

2005 models will be built up to the end of July. Manufacturing is shutdown for August for european holiday and model year change-over.

2006 production starts begining of September.

So, if you ordered a 2006, it will be built starting September unless it is an early release - like when they updated the 3.0 to valvetronic.

You can find out exactly the week that your car is going to be built by either contacting your dealer or going onto BMW's owner circle. You can track the vehicle right through the build, of course updates are about a week slow.

The changes are only from Build dates in September

Why would yor car be built so long before you get it ?

We build the 3 Series here in SA and all the ones my family have gotten were delivered less than 5 days after being built, with the biggest delay being getting the car from the factory to the dealer

All I see on Owners Circle is a production #, and does not mention a build date. Is it possible to decode the production # into some build date?

thanks
