Sat down with BMW rep to discuss purchasing an BMW extended warranty as my 2008 550i sport is at 49K . In the process, the rep showed me the estimate of $1,426,23 to replace both front front and Back Brakes. Here's my question, My last Car was a 2001 740i , I could change pads , rotors and sensers individually and for less than $150 per wheel . This rep said that my car requires the full assemply to be replaced rather than individul parts.
Up to now, mine have been replaced under warranty. Can anyone tell me if this is true . Whats the cost on parts to do myself these days ?

He's BS'ing you. Yes, if you take the car to the dealer they charge around $1400 for full brake replacement. That said, you can get the parts and do it yourself (there are DIY threads here), I have done mine myself and I have helped others do it. DO NOT get the extended warranty for that, get it for other things.
LOL, My dealer told me an oil change costs $288 - I told him "and what idiot pays that?", no way in hell I am paying $288 for a job I can do in less than 30 mins.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts, I figured as much. I'm looking at the extended plan(Platinum) verses gold, to protect my I-drive and navigation system and entertainment system and other electronics more than anything else. The Plan is expensive at $3900 for the 550i sport but I've read the coverages multiple times and this one covers ALL electrical. It's a lot of money but, but it's transferrable.

And very worth it, it cost me $1100 to get my CCC, TCU and Aux input replaced/installed. With new parts from the dealer it would have easily been triple that. Better to have the best coverage you can afford, to avoid unpleasant surprises later

Hmmm pads, rotors, sensor .... and there's more ???

I guess the "BMW Rep" gets the "full assembly" including front fender and bumper too

Did he try to sell you a bridge while you were under his spell?

That said, I suspect the warranty you were investigating was the Maintenance Package ... http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...ceUpgrade.aspx

The post-factory warranty doesn't cover scheduled maintenance.

For whatever this is worth, I have heard that the Brembo (?bimbo?) calipers (with 4 pistons) retail for $2,000 each. FYI.
