Last week I took my car in to replaced the rears pads (under warranty) due to noise. The pads were wearing thin also.
They replaced the pads but did not give me new rotors. Their reason was my rotors thickness was still within spec.
On all my previous BMWs, pads and rotors were always replaced at the same time.
I suspect that since the work was done under warranty, they skimmed out on me.
Has anyone had similar experience?

Thanks.

I don't think it's a scam. My car was out of warranty and they didn't try to sell me new rotors. Of course at $280, I didn't let them replace my rear pads.

Did they at least turn the rotors when they replaced the pads?

When I lived in Germany, it was just about illegal to turn BMW rotors. Here in the states I'm sure you could get it done. As for the warranty the rotors SHOULD get replaced along with the pads. I know for a fact that if your car is out of warranty they sure as hell will recommend replacing the rotors.

No, they did not resurface the rotor for the same reason you mentioned. They slapped on new pads and leave the rotors as is.

Then I'm afraid they are skimming you for the cost of the rotors.

Any mechanic that does brakes will tell you that whenever you replace the pads, you should either turn or replace the rotors. I'd at least report your situation to BMWNA and see what they say.

I took mine to the dealer last month for a warranty brake service and they only changed the pads and not the rotors. I didn't think much of it until now. I figured car was better than when I took it in... HMMMM... I want new rotors now!! haha

Exact same thing happened to me two weeks ago. Took my car in complaining of brake squeeking. Picked it up SA told me they replaced the rear pads & rotars, but when i go home and read the paperwork, they only replaced the rear pads. I am close to the end of my 4 year warranty.
