Maybe, just maybe if he/she went well beyond my expectations to get something done for me. Of course I have yet to experience that, so no, I have never tipped a service advisor...

I am not replying to you directly ks. But, I think tipping an SA would be out of place. For all of you, given what you do to make a living, what would you think if someone tried to tip you?--and would you take the tip?

OMG, no. And I give HONEST reviews too, especially when they "beg" for 5s. God, I hate that.

I do however, usually tip the small independent service guy who does my tires/wheels and was doing non-warranty work on my E39. But that's because HE was doing the work.

I remember in the bad old days (mid-70s) tipping my BMW mechanic with a dube. Coin of the realm in those days.

Tee hee,

I've owned lots of high end cars, and have never tipped the SA, nor have I ever seen anybody do it.

I thought you said 50% of the bill once before. Still nice tips though.

I also remember the 50% of bill comment:

ah my friend sorry to disappoint you but as a customer of bmw for 8 years with 6 cars so far, i do get to pick the spoils.. and besides i always leave a handsome tip when they service my car (50% of the bill)... and a family member works in sales, and one of my best friends works in servicing...

So technically speaking i can pick any car to drive, even cars that are left for service... How many people notice if there are an extra 20kms on the odo when they pick up their car?? Next in line is X5 4.8is , just waiting for someone to leave one for serviceing
...so I guess the average service bill there is 100 to 200 euros...

I gave my SA a $100 gift card when he went beyond my expectations. When my car got a crack in the windshield, he got everything fixed under the PUMA case. First I was expecting to dish out $700. Then after checking with PUMA, he informed me that they'd pay for replacement windshield but i'd be responsible for labor. I was expecting a $150 bill. When i went to pick up my car, he said he was able to get the dealer to pick up the tab. Since I was already pay $700, then $150, I used that money to buy him a card.
My service level with him didn't change after getting a gift card. It was already at "5".
